Been thinking about the Bowyer scenario tonight and although he'd lost his way and was frustrating the life out of most of us he did seem to be running the team in the way they wanted. Maybe though behind the scenes he wasn't actually the yes man to them we thought he was.

I was thinking they'd potted him because they knew he'd want money to spend after exiting embargo and he seemed to have a reluctance to blooding the cheap youth they so badly want to rush through. Maybe though it goes a little deeper and perhaps in his clean up job he refused to take players other certain factions were offering him, perhaps in a similar way to Sam.

I've long thought Shaw was here to protect another parties interest in the club and soon as he goes another one comes in under the radar with connections to the fat controllers mob. Now surprise surprise we have Coyle in situ and we know the score there in regards to past associations which he's already blatantly lied about. Remember the 'Bowyers been sacked' when he hadn't ?

Just who actually wanted him out and why seeing as he fit the Venky plan perfectly. Food for thought when you look at the re-emergence of smells we thought had wafted away !

Seems Kilgallons replacement will arrive this weekend...

Baps ? or Wheater ?

My biggest worry - on top of the many worries I have for Rovers - is the fact we're reputedly selling players and replacing them with loans.

The problem with that is twofold. Mainly as in a year's time our squad is just as threadbare and dependent on the goodwill of other clubs to loan us players. It also means we can develop a long term style of play and players become familiar with one another. But even under Venkys er - "strategy" it's flawed as you can't make any money from loans.

Agreed. Very much a short term strategy which relies on promotion this year.

We are just ticking over, with the plan seemingly to bring through a youth player, or investment player, each season and get a conveyor belt of players to market on a three year cycle or so. The board room cartoon whiteboard pictorial draws itself. Like an early draft of 'Duck Shoot'.

Players on the conveyor belt:

Hanley (job done)

Duffy (working on it)

Evans (his stock is at its highest after the Euros)

Marshall (maybe January)

Lowe (he's crap, nobody will buy him. "Right, make him captain")

Stokes (get him fit and scoring)

Graham (if he starts banging them in he's a potential late hatcher)

Raya

Lenihan

Tomlinson

Nyambe

Mahoney

The rest are hatchlings.

But what about Conway? If he doesn't go this Summer on the cheap he'll probably become a layer and we'll be stuck paying him off to avoid a follow-on contract.

Conway was one of our better players under Bowyer and is probably of a higher standard of wide mid then we'll bring in over the next few years, so I'm not worried if he stays.

Conway or Bennett or Feeney? No contest Imo and Bennett I think is an industrious versatile player (he'll have to be with this squads thinness.) plus his game relies more on dribbling than pace so don't think Conway will deteriorate that much.

Oh I'm sure you'll manage to make it sound magical whoever it is.

And I'm sure whoever we get, regardless of whether you've seen them play or not, you will paint them out to be absolutely crap. You'll prob then whinge and whine about them for two seasons until we sell them when you will suddenly proclaim them an absolute world beater and worth 10 times more than their actual valuation...and so on..

We both hate Venkys, we both bleed blue and white, we both understand the crap we're in. But only one of us is miserable all day...

Something went wrong with him last season. He was a shadow of his former self. Lambert ended up dropping him - probably to accommodate Gomez but still.

True but up till then he has been consistent and all players have dips in form so I'm not too worried - yet.

Also Coyle has banged on about wingers so feel that this focus may also benefit Conway.

Bench warmer then since that's where Kilgallon spent much of last season. Whoops I'm not meant to be here. Apologies.

Gumboots, you were always a really solid & interesting poster.

It's a real shame that what's happening to our club as left you sounding like you're permanently sucking a gooseberry.

Anyhow, hope you have a great holiday and enjoy your time off from the message-board. :)

He was OK under Bowyer last season but with little to aim at his form began to dip. Obviously Gestede leaving was a major cause. Lambert only played with wingers occasionally prefering more centrally based players. Conway was tried centrally but struggled hence being dropped.

Good point about Gestede. Although Bowyer did have this thing for playing wingers on the opposite side for some reason, even when we had Gestede.

Conway had a poor spell under Bowyer mid season a while back but he ground his way through it and came good again. Like a lot of ours now he's an industrious quite one dimensional player and when that isn't working they don't have much to fall back on and look very poor. I seem to remember GB just kept playing him as he often did with others and he came round again.

If he gets used properly and gets his form back you'd think having someone like Graham to aim for might help.

Liverpool are said to be looking to sign a centre back due to Skrtel transfer and Joe Gomez injury. Unlikely to loan one out I would think. Pity he has a good reputation.

They have just signed one

Nicko is saying Ipswich want 2 mil for Tommy Smith.

He is just guessing a figure

Conway seems to me to be your archetypal confidence player and last season his confidence looked shot.

He is just a slow winger who has good delivery. Basically a bog standard championship winger.

Conway prefers to play on the left wing. Most of the time thats where he has played.

Marshall prefers playing on the left aswell tho

He will probably be loaned out again this season, because he is surplus to requirements at the moment. If he becomes required, he will be recalled to Liverpool.

Why do you say that when Liverpool are short on centre backs? I'm not doubting you. I just wondered why they would loan him out.
