Feel it will be today or never with this one, Mowbray clearly thought it was close at weekend.

Nixon yesterday said something minor was holding it up but Sharpes article makes it seem further away but reads more like a placeholder based on the fact he's clearly going to leave Reading

With Ipswich and Barnsley also interested, I suspect the player will be weighing up more than one offer.  No doubt his agent will be weighing up the financial aspects of the offers.

How does one become a football agent? Is it like a progression from being a used car salesman?

Pay £550 and two referees hey presto football intermediary

Absolutely. Supply and demand though. Looking at it objectively, they're providing a service, but it needs better regulation and there need to be caps on fees. Too much money is going out of football and it's not benefitting grassroots, it's only benefitting the bank account of agents.

With the figures that are getting bandied about right now it's bound to very appealing to many. Particularly those without a care for morals and a huge care for money.

Though, in fairness, I'm sure we'd all like to have more money!

Lucrative though depending on how many morals you don't have.

I hope they have a few others on the list should this not go though.  Marquis for one is in last year of contract and has rejected another one.

Always simple to me. Enforce a rule that forces clubs to have a specific agent who's paid by them, not by %10 on the deals made.

If players want their own agent outside of that, they pay for it from their own wages.

No different to allot of sales/recruitment type roles.

Issue is recruitment itself is slightly accredited with MIRP like most other professions, charterdship or accreditation helps to regulate certain people working in sectors. I'm RICS and accountants ACCA, Football agency isn't regulated at all.

When agents can draft contracts and willy nilly amend legal terms you've got severe issues. You'd be surprised the amount of sub contracts and main contracts I see day to day which are amended but don't follow good practise or form of contract legal notes.

Remember you might have a valid claim to sue someone etc but unless the contract is drafted legally it's not worth the paper it's wrote on.

How many football agents are going to have contractual administration experience? You've got bloody JEROME Anderson working as a director at a sports law firm!

Bugger

Although that may rule them out of signing Samuel

Ipswich use a model that we should have been doing. Picking up young hungry players from lower divisions with minimal risk. They dont spend a lot, dont have a lot. Just a good manager and a good recruitment plan. From League 2 (ok League 1 now but was top scorer in League 2) to Championship is a bit of a jump but one they think is worth a punt on.

In the last few years Ipswich have had a very poor team and no investment whatsoever. The big difference has been Mick McCarthy, who has gotten the absolute best out of some extremely limited players.

It has resulted in some shockingly bad football though, which caused ST sales to drop significantly this year. Now Evans is suddenly throwing a little money the club's way to pretend he has some ambition. It might also be a tactic for Mick to extend his contract, as he's in his last year.

Regardless, without a decent manager Ipswich would have been down a while ago. Instead they remain stuck in perpetual Championship limbo.

Yep they've had fan unrest with a section on McCarthys case from the off even when they were overachieving. He's had dogs abuse at times and had a few goes back.

But of course in some minds that on ever happens at Rovers.

Great interview with McCarthy on Irish radio the other night. The podcast is called "Off the ball", well worth a listen. He speaks interestingly about what it is like managing a club in the Championship with little investment. He is at Ipswich 5 years now ,if he makes it to November, as he says himself. He actually got them into the play-offs in his first season but things have stalled since then. As mentioned above though, they would probably have went down if he wasn't the manager. He was my number 1 choice after we went down from the Premiership. I am pretty confident we would have went up. He has had a solid managerial career has Mick, easy to forget he got the Ireland job when he was only 36. One penalty kick away from beating Spain at the World cup to set up a quarter final v South Korea. All without Roy Keane. An extremely good Championship manager.  He has won it twice, once with Wolves and once with Sunderland. To say his stays in the Premiership didn't go well would be an understatement though! If the owners invest there he will get them in or around the play-offs, which would be a stellar achievement.

John Akinde looked decent last night for Barnet against Swansea. If it is right that we had a bid accepted for him but wages couldnt be agreed then we should go in for him again if we are getting rid of Stokes' wages

Sadly the only way we are getting rid of Stokes wage, is if we pay him it.

I can see us having to pay the waster a year of his wages lump sum, which will lead to a mutual termination and him trotting back up to Scotland.

Take it with a large pinch of salt but Nixon still expects Samuel to happen and said it's not a Venky issue delaying it

Non Venky related diagnosis from Nixon. If it was to do with them, he would take great glee in announcing it. So this is good news.
