Is Wes Brown still here? Is he just using the facilities to get fit and then beggar off. I'm not a fan and I do think he's past it but maybe him and Greer can add a bit of steady at the back there.....compared to the shyte in there now ward and duffy...

I didn't think Duffy and Greer were too bad when playing together. Also it can't be easy playing in the middle when you don't have any proper full backs.

I noticed when Byrne came on it gave Feeny the opportunity to get forward because he wasn't having to cover for defensive errors, as Byrne was helping out in that dept.

Coyle now after "2 or 3 players". We've gone from "5 or 6" to "3" to "2 or 3". Clear why Lambert left.

And the fact we haven't made one proper signing. All frees and loans.

Its clearly an ever changing picture behind the scenes. Coyle probably thought when he got the job he'd be given free reign to rebuild the squad to his liking, within certain financial parameters. His hot air about Grant Hanley gave the impression of a manager who thought he was in control of transfers in and out of the club. Then a week later his story changed from him deciding what was an acceptable bid to him merely advising and offering his opinion. Then when Hanley was sold from under his feet by the pondlife he had to backtrack as the accepted bid wasn't too far off the £4.5 million that Coyle had criticised a week earlier.

He probably then thought that with a few quid in the bank that he'd have more leeway to strengthen, when infact the reverse has happened and crucial weeks have gone by with zero positive transfer activity. Welcome to the madhouse Owen! Here's why Paul Lambert walked out and you were the 'best candidate' for the job. A.K.A. the cheapest and most willing to put up with this rubbish without walking out.

Lambert's resignation must have been very irritating for the people behind the scenes running this club into the ground. Just imagine a member of staff having the audacity to demand communication and money and then resigning! They much prefer the sort who put up with whatever they throw at them and cling on for dear life. I bet the people behind the scenes who have the power (Venkys?) were looking forward to an easy summer of cashing in on some players to pay their debts and cover their losses, so having to waste their time with an irritating managerial search and sanction his appointment must have taken up about 30 minutes of someone's time somewhere.

All the while Coyle is revising his shortlist. Now we're down to '2 or 3'. In a couple of weeks it will be 'a couple' and we'll do well to get 2 frees/loans done before the window slams shut. One of which will probably be Wes Brown and the other a cheap loan kid from the Premier League academies.

Lambert was in a difficult position in terms of his own career. The legacy of his Villa spell was still fresh in a lot of people's minds, so he couldn't afford to leave Rovers due to poor results. The way he managed his departure he ensured it was on his terms and he's managed to paint himself in quite a positive light as the victim of Venkys mismanagement (as we all are). If he'd have clung on through the summer he'd have probably ended up in another Villa situation - miserable, under pressure, making himself ill. He'd have got no pleasure working for a shell of a club that's only going one way.

Such a shame really because if we'd have had the communication aspect sorted out - a Chairman who had power like Lambert asked for - and we'd been honest from the word go about what finance was available - then I'm sure he might have hung around and give it a go. I don't believe for one second that he walked as soon as he wasn't given £20 million to spend. That's a completely unrealistic level of money for anyone to demand. If we'd have sold him a 2-4 year plan of gradually improving within FFP limits and a well though out strategy then he might be interested in such a 'project'. It was all the rest of the rubbish that convinced him to get out quick. No board, Myers and Shaw quitting, no communication. Throw in no money and cost cutting all over the show and there was no reason whatsoever to even attempt to stay when the club is set up to fail.

I believe this was a made up fact/figure from some who were incredibly bitter over GB's sacking and wanted to paint Lambert in as poor a light as possible.

Yes, Chaddy....He made it up...Blame him for it all. He said 20m, Nicko told him and everything

He looked completely lost on Saturday.

Duffy isn't gone, Greer is capable, Graham has been here since January.

Edit: Duffy going is unthinkable. From worse to worse...

Lowe is a safe bet. Nobody is going to bid for him.

What about a loan move for one of Celtic's midfielders ? That part of the team seem a bit "crowded"...

Nir Bitton, Scott Brown, Scott Sinclair, Stuart Armstrong, Kris Kommons, Gary Makay-Steven, Tom Rogic, Stefan Johansen, Patrick Roberts, Kristoffer Ajer and James Forrest. Surely we could be able to get one of those in on loan ?

Whatever happened to Charlie Mulgrew ? He could be a decent left back option IF he stays injury free.

James Forrest is apparently our first choice to replace Marshall if he goes.

Predictably, Coyle will speak of his frustration after the window has closed. I'm sure he has and will continue to line players up but he admits himself he then has no idea whether Venkys will approve the deals or not. No way to run a club.

Coyle said he wants a left back, centre back and striker. If he doesn't sign a right back and central midfielder as well, and thinks our current ones are good enough, we are in even deeper trouble than I thought.

Said he wants a keeper too but I can't see him bringing one in.

So he wants a left back (after signing one already)... Surely it would have made sense to sign one good left back and use Henley for back up. Hendrix signing seems odder all the time.

Coyle's original choice was caught up in crosstown traffic and couldn't get to Ewood in time to sign.

Good move for him, lovely part of the country, Otley and Ilkley down the road. Guiseley has one of the best pubs I've ever been too also, The Ings.

A club on the up. A couple of quick promotions, think they were playing Chorley a couple of years ago. It can't be a big club so to get to the Conference is a pretty good achievement.

We've had a lad called Josh Powell on trial all pre-season turning out for the Under-21/Under-23 team. I expect that he will sign as he has looked very good in pre-season games.

Will he take the place of Steele though, or just be a second/third choice?

What annoys me most about the transfer situation is if they are no so unwilling to spend any money then why sack Gaz and show obvious intent with the appointment of Lambert last season? May as well have kept Gaz who was a far better 'on a shoestring' manager than Coyle!

Interesting bit there JH in your comment, Lambert left on his own terms, and put himself as a victim of Venkys.

I think many fans have literally done the same, walked away, except many fans and the media still think those who walked away are the villains, and not Venkys.
