Bang average, I'm telling you he's just a nothingy player....Coyle might get him because he brought him through the academy and into the U21....I used to go and watch them a lot at the LFA HQ, He's no better than what we have,.......The young/little lad up front is a must though.....

I believe this was a made up fact/figure from some who were incredibly bitter over GB's sacking and wanted to paint Lambert in as poor a light as possible.

Nixon has confirmed the story that Lambert wanted too much money. PL asked for £20m because he knew he wouldn't get it, it then gave him an excuse to walk away. The weird thing is that when he left he gave an interview to the LT saying a transfer budget hadn't been discussed. This was obviously a bit of a porky.

FWIW, the person who told me about all of this was also critical of Bowyer, so your theory about it all being made up by 'Bowyerettes' to make Lambert look bad is way off. Apparently Lambert never wanted the job and turned it down twice before relenting, but made sure he had an escape clause inserted. Let's not paint him as a martyr who was badly wronged by the owners. It was just a job to him, a job that he didn't really want... and who could blame him.

There's an obvious pattern that has emerged through all these appointments. It's a pattern of utter cluelessness and gullibility on the part of the owners, based on whoever they were listening to at the time. I doubt any of our managers since SA would have been appointed if we'd had a proper board structure filled with people who knew their football.

So he never wanted the job and yet took it?

And then orchestrated his own departure after just 6 months?

I'm not buying it. If he didn't want the job in the first place then he simply wouldn't have taken it. If he wasn't happy here he could have resigned at any time he wanted without all the dramatics. He could just say he wasn't happy here or was leaving for personal reasons. He didn't need the whole performance about no communication.

He clearly was led to believe or at least hoped he could get them to invest either in January or the summer. Their disgusting and disgraceful behaviour, a complete lack of respect for this football club and those who work for it and support it, is evident. Its continuing today and has been going on for at least a year since they ceased contact with Gary Bowyer. Some people, like Cheston and Coyle, will put up with being treated in this way because they need a job.

Lambert didn't need it, not after what happened at Villa. He gave them a chance to change their ways and prove to him they meant business and were taking this seriously, and when it became clear they weren't going to do so, there was no point even attempting to make a success of this. Why? Because if you don't even get the very basics right in football - such as a competent board of directors with authority to make serious decisions - then no matter how much money you have you will fail.

Lambert spelled it out very clearly what was and is needed to be successful in this league, and they weren't interested. He will have wanted to get the ball rolling on transfers and new contracts early doors to get a head start on rivals this summer, and that isn't Venky style. Everything has to be slow and last minute, always has been, and that's why we're in mid August with next to no squad and can't sign any players.

Nixons confirmed nothing. Anyone could have said what he said. Got to laugh at the "wanted too much money" comment. "Any money" is too much money for the owners. You make it sound like if he'd asked for ten mill, he might have got it - lol.

I think it's as simple as Lambert needed money to take the club forwards (piggin obvious) and it wasn't forthcoming. Too many conspiracy theories by people wishing to put him down. He was definitely going to Celtic as well, wasn't he?

The loan striker was just about a minor details and was suppose to be done over the weekend. Well it's tuesday and another match today but still there is no one signed. If it's Gallagher I am ok with that. Saw him few seasons ago and was really hoping us to make a loan move for him. Was surprised how little he did last season but someone mentioned there was serious famiy tragedy bothering his displays.

That is at odds to what I was told from somebody within the club. It was Myers who did the spadework and targeted Lambert and convinced the Indians that he was the man to take us back to the PL. Their initial support of this appointment was apparent and when Myers went to India to finalise the playing budget they had done an about turn which left Myers in a difficult position. It was because of the Myers resigned and it was only a matter of time before Lambert did what a man of integrity would do and walk away from the insanity despite having two years left on his contract. I don't think anybody knows for sure what spooked them.

To kind of support this Mani posted that Bowyer would have loved the budget that Lambert was promised.

Yes, the Celtic deal had been set up long before he announced he was leaving Rovers wasn't it?

And he wouldn't have left Rovers without a job to walk into would he?

Oh, and he took the Rovers job because he desperately needed the money and to re-establish his credibility as a manager!

Why would people want to 'put him down'? Why make everything personal? How do you know Celtic didn't turn him down? He gave notice at Rovers at about the same time as Celtic made it known their manager was off. This could be just coincidence of course - lol.

Too many people putting Lambert on a pedestal. He was bang average. His signings were generally poor. He had no idea how to create chances from open play. He maintained the solid defence set up by Bowyer at the beginning of the season so credit to him for that. The players were generally fitter. 9 games without a win though? Good grief, that's a shocker. I don't think the lamentable Coyle will plumb those depths.

Nixon confirmed what is generally known round Ewood. Lambert was unrealistic in his expectations re his transfer kitty

It also shows that this very clubs future hinges on the whim of these people, who are unpredictable and capable of changing their minds on the future strategy of the club in mid-season for reasons unknown.

One minute they are looking at promotion and indicating they are going to spend to achieve it and everyone is looking upwards for once, the next the budget is slashed and we're looking at a highly likely relegation and place in the third division.

Why would people want to 'put him down'? Why make everything personal? How do you know Celtic didn't turn him down? He gave notice at Rovers at about the same time as Celtic made it known their manager was off. This could be just coincidence of course - lol.

Coyle will likely relegate us. Lambert kept us up last season when our points return prior to his arrival was looking like relegation form.

Coyle doesn't know how to set a team up to defend. Hence why we shipped 4 goals at home in our first game of the season and had Norwich wanted to it would have been 6 or 7. Lambert had us organised and fit, missing some creativity which is easier to rectify than suddenly learning how to organise a defence after a managerial career of proving he can't do.

Bowyer = Goals against = 15 in 16 = 0.9375 goals per game

Lambert = Goals against = 30 in 28 = 1.0714 goals per game

Lamberts defensive record was worse then Bowyers.

Entirely plausible, and just goes to show we all hear different things. What's great about your post is that you didn't resort to the usual 'you don't agree with my narrative so you've got an agenda'.

I would question why Lambert praised the owners when he left though, and why he stated that transfer funds were not part of his reason for quitting and that they hadn't been discussed. But then Lambert contradicted himself quite a few times. I certainly wouldn't call him a man of integrity. Just my opinion.

Yeah, but Bowyer wasn't the manager for just the start of last season was he?

Agreed which is why Lambert was a relatively better manager compared to Bowyer. Though both were bang average at best.

If Lambert'd had the squad Bowyer had with Gestede/Rhodes/Judge/King/Cairney I believe he'd have done better than Bowyer.

A lot just seem to want to praise Bowyer and criticise Lambert which is just strange to me. Had Lambert been given the backing/squad Bowyer had I honestly believe, like I said, we'd have fared better. The amount of late goals we shipped under Bowyer, points dropped from winning positions was shameful and cost us a spot in the play-offs.

Doubtful it would have been having played the same games the team was notoriously porus under GB. Also any coincidence that Hanley caught everyone's eye last season under Lambert and became worth 5.5 million ? Season before under Bowyer he was awful.

Yes but he could not get the best out of Duffy. Hence the bad defensive record. Not to mention not addressing the full back issue.

Aim high to get the best results maybe was his mantra.

Asking for 20 mill and stamping his feet after they've given him the job and backed him with a few signings possibly thinking well I doubt i'll get that but they might cough up 10 mill from the Rhodes sale which I think was an initial expectation. End of the day he was at least trying to get them into action and pointing out how much the team needed in investment if it wasn't to continue going backwards.

No one else has had the balls to do that and he could have coasted along like the rest and meandering into a nice 2 year contract waffling about stability. Safe in the knowledge there'd be a nice pay off sooner or later.

Top bloke !
