Amo Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 It certainly shows that we aren't being fickle, Tom, but I'm waiting for someone to blame our defeat on that negativity. Like our old pal, Hughesy, you mean? User Actions Follow Hughesy ⚽ ♠@Hughesy84 Undeserved loss that 1 today.... 4 mins to go Venkys out chants start louder.... 1 min later ball in our net - just stay away pls #Rovers

Paul Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 According to BBC nothing less than Fulham deserved. Just goes to prove how little they know. Apart from a 3-4 minute spell around the 55th minute Fulham hardly applied any sustained pressure. I've only seen this and the Burton game and this performance was a significant improvement over last Saturday. We looked solid throughout the team especially so in defence. The ball was rarely given away cheaply and we worked hard to recover when we lost the ball. We defended in their half and in our own half held the line much further forward. To me it looked as if we had a cast iron penalty ignored towards the end of the first half. The grounded Fulhsm defender scooped the ball away got up and ran with it. Right under the linesman's nose. If Rovers had won this 1-0 Fulham could not have complained. A good performance, good game and very unlucky to lose. Enjoyed this afternoon apart from listening to the 20 DE fans calling Coyle Burnley scum after Fulham scored. Words fail me.
McClarky Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 He was injured yes but the point is that every sub is "like for like". Byrne would have added more creativity than Lenihan. I was about to post the same thing. Looking back over the games this season we have made 3 subs in each 1 which have just about all been like for like changes. No plan B, no attempt to change the game. With a squad this poor some idea of how to change a game would be good but obviously Coyle isn't the man for that kind of thing.

We are built very differently and have very different views of the world generally though.Oh and the Venkys Out chants weren't 'louder' then. That's spin.
LDRover Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Okay I didn't go today but the live score app is saying it was 63-37% possession in favour of Fulham?? Does that seem right?

Doug Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Improved performance again, and a game we didn't deserve to lose. Steele pulled off a decent save in first half and probably had his best game. Lowe is not a RB, he does not stay close enough to his man. Centre half pairing was strong and Williams looked our best LB for years! Marshall was poor and needs to be RB. Akpan and Guthrie were decent and Conway was good but cannot cross with his left foot. Gallagher was ineffective and Graham looked like he's getting back to his form last season. Subs didn't change anything, although I thought Lenihan was good when he came on. Feeney is looking the player I didn't rate during his last spell here. Stokes was better than Gally had been. We done to the attending fans again, Venky's out was a lot louder today from both ends. Looks like it's going to be a difficult task to avoid relegation at the moment.
Backroom Mike E Posted August 27, 2016 Backroom Posted August 27, 2016 Why? Have you not heard any anti Burnley chants before? More the fact it will damage the fans' credibility if the media think.we're targeting Venkys because of Coyle's links to Burnley. We need to actually ignore (or even support) him and focus our ire at Venkys.

chaddyrovers Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Today was a good performance. Players worked very hard. The team had a good structure to it and organised. Hoban played really well and deserve his MOTM award. Williams played well at left back. And I will say Steele and the back 4 were very organised. Much better than when Duffy has played. Guthrie and Akpan had good games. When Guthrie had to go off we lost a player who can pass the ball in there. Graham performance abit better than recent games and looks like last season player. but I would have took him off not Gallagher as I believe he looked shattered and injured. I would have took Marshall off much earlier than we did but not bought on Feeney. Coyle need money from the owners to improve the team now Fulham had a lot of possession of the ball and never really went anywhere with it. all in front of the Rovers team. Huff and puff
DanielMB Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Scary thing, take a look at Newcastles bench for today. Everyone of the 6 outfield players would strengthen our starting eleven.

broadsword Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 it was 109 plays 61 to us or 263 - 55 in pre decimilisation kelvins
Parsonblue Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 An improved performance despite never looking likely to win the game. The new lads seem to have strengthened the back line. Hoban and Greer looked good together in the centre and Williams seems a very steady left-back. The main issue for me is still the midfield. Marshall doesn't want to know, Akpan and Guthrie are very limited and Conway remains the only threat. I thought Parker and Cairney completely dominated in midfield and Fulham looked far quicker in their movement and played with more purpose going forward. Defensively, we looked better and there is a platform on which to build but unless we can inject some quality into the middle of the park we are always going to struggle to score goals. The next few days will be vital in terms of deciding our season. At the moment we are simply not good enough to stay up.
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Yes. Let's abandon statistics and just rely on guesses. It's the way these seasons go. Denial appears inevitable. We'll hear lots of disagreement with neutral media sources and lots of comments like "unlucky", "we didn't deserve to lose", "the ref was shocking". It's not just the likes of Coyle and Kean that can't resist deluding themselves when reality becomes too unpalatable.
Hasta Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I was there and thought Akpan did ok, in fact him and Guthrie looked the best pairing we've tried so far. I said all throughout the game our biggest problem as we never had possession centrally in their half. It was always wide or tried to be lashed in to the strikers on the end of their box. Defensively we looked more organised with these two but neither ever got on the ball within 10 metres of the strikers. Today was a good performance. Players worked very hard. The team had a good structure to it and organised. Hoban played really well and deserve his MOTM award. Williams played well at left back. And I will say Steele and the back 4 were very organised. Coyle need money from the owners to improve the team now Fulham had a lot of possession of the ball and never really went anywhere with it. all in front of the Rovers team. Huff and puff Today was bang average and we created one proper chance again st a team that won't even challenge in this league.A draw would have been a fair result but, if one team did deserve to win it, then it wasn't us.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Had to miss today's game, the stats would suggest we were a lot more solid defensively than of late ( without Duffy) but struggled to create enough at the other end. Very disappointed Samuelson didn't start, he was the one signing I was genuinely excited by. Hope he doesn't turn out to be another pointless signing we bring in on loan then never give any minutes on the pitch like Barrow and Grimes. The League table is looking fairly grim already, If the owners have any interest as to where we finish this season as opposed to simply selling off everything that moves as some sort of exit strategy then Coyle's position needs to be under close scrutiny already. Problem is though, who's going to want to try and rescue us with a bunch of loan players with no real affiliation to the Club and players who are Coyle's choice as opposed to other players they might have preferred.
