We have a Wednesday season ticket holder in the family who went tonight:

"An absolutely miserable ground to come and watch football"

"What have these people done to the town and your fans"

"Its a tragedy that nobody outside of bburn knows about, very sad"

Says it all really..... :(

Well that was rubbish. Got worse as it went on too.

Team needs freshening up for Saturday. I'd go with:

Steele; Marshall, Brown (if match fit), Greer/Hoban (their distribution tonight was very poor, Greer's especially), Williams (he's basic at best but there's nobody else); Samuelsen, Lenihan, Evans, Conway; Graham, Emnes.

Oh and bringing on Feeney is just unforgivable. That attempted cross-field ball was embarrassing.

Just for anyone that wasn't there tonight was proof that a tin of spam is a better footballer than Liam Feeney

The cross field ball to nobody summed him up, followed by the slip very soon after.

Poor subs tonight, didn't change our formation or style, though we looked a bit more dangerous with Graham on.

Hopefully, Lowe being replaced at RB by Marshall is a positive sign that Coyle realises their respective best positions.

We have no pace in that midfield or defence.

The type of subs and reorganisation you'd make when you want to just see a game out.............

Also word doing the rounds Marshall and Feeney on the @#/? Sunday night despite a Tuesday game. Welcome to just going through the motions and earn a wage Rovers Fc.

There's probably an element of people who are clinging to the hope that Wednesday were a good side and had progressed on last season and as such we were always going to be up against it tonight against a rampant side gunning for promotion.

I'd like to confirm that theory is utter tosh and that comfort blanket can be put away. Wednesday were dreadful, however we were even worse. Just to reiterate that Wednesday were winless away from home before tonight and had been dispatched by the likes of Burton, Cambridge and Birmingham prior to arriving at Ewood.

On the balance of play a 0-0 would have been a fair result tonight. The difference between the two sides was that they had one chance from outside the area and took it and then went on to defend effectively as a team for the remainder of the night, hoping to potentially capitalise on the counter attack as the night wore on. Rovers had absolutely no answer to their defensive play. Very little penetration of any kind. A startling lack of urgency. Even in the dying minutes players were looking to continue to pass the ball across the middle of the pitch. All of Wednesday's very few chances came from long range strikes from outside the area when their players were allowed time and freedom to have a go. Something we very rarely got and even when we did had no-one prepared to have a go from range.

Coyle is now moaning about the offside decision. As far as I can recall that was just about the only chance we had in the entire second half. At home. When 1-0 down against a side struggling away from home.

That's the easiest win any away side will have in any game this season. Really disappointing after building up some confidence and a couple of encouraging performances recently.

Still, that's now 13 game in a row and counting that we've conceded under Coyle's management. No need to look any further as to why we are where we are. We'll carry on conceding at this rate because Coyle doesn't know any differently.

I wonder how much longer City will accept Byrne not featuring or West Ham with Samuelson. No point in either being here on loan if they aren't going to be given a chance whilst a donkey like Feeney keeps getting game time ahead of them.

Sounds like he cares more than some of our fans.

well to sum up what i saw tonight. I thought hoban and emnes played well and put the effort in along with conway who did what he could with absolutly no support. lenihan came on and never stopped running and put himself about and imo must start the next game. Jason lowe put in his usual negative performance slowing play down, always taking the safe option going backwards letting wednesday regroup.Challenges there to be won and never put his foot in, Ben marshalls was a no show, unmotivated, uninspired performance which are becoming more frequent with every match that passes. How cory evans got man of the match is beyond me. the centre midfield created nothing, never won a second ball and never made themselves available to the back four to recieve a pass nor support the front two when the rare knock downs came. The speed of the build up is a massive concern. Wednesday were all back behind the ball and in formation ready to defend while lowey and the boys knocked it around at the back before a big hoof up top to nowhere. 1-0 down at home with no creativity no shots on target no inspiration and three creative players on the bench he brings lenihan on. why he isnt going all out to get something from the game i don't know. Wednesday were well organised. Everybody new there jobs and did them professionally and got what they deserved. to many rovers players went hiding, scared to recieve the ball, attempt a dribble, try long range shot. We needed men out there and got boys. #VENKYSOUT

Infuriating watch tonight, we battled and pressed well to win the ball back but did very little when we did have it. Tempo of the passing was too slow and knocking it around from one side of the back four to the other probably looks good for possession stats but nothing else. I can understand if we are trying to build from the back and play patient football but the pattern seemed to be knock it around slowly at the back for a while and then play long, often aimless, diagonals balls forward. Lose ball, win it back quickly and then repeat. Have yet to see Samuelsen play but surely he's got to be an improvement on Feeney, who's cameo tonight was laughable and sucked any momentum that we might have had towards the end of the game. Never been a fan of us kicking towards the Darwen End in the second half.

Very flat performance indeed last night, I thought we played quite well until they scored with aid from a deflection but after that we never put Wednesday under any real pressure and they rarely had to move out of first gear in the second half to contain us.

The main problem appeared to be a lack of movement and urgency. A well organised Wednesday side played a very high line and we were by and large completely unable to combat it. What was needed was players busting a gut to run past the strikers or wide men overlapping or balls threaded through or over the top to get their defence on the turn. Instead we were completely immobile, didn't see anyone running past anyone else until Lenihan came on and we spent most of the night knocking the ball harmlessly from side to side in front of the Wednesday defence.

Very disappointing, we'll have to play a lot better than that to get out of trouble.

Also agree with the comments on Samuels on, I was genuinely excited at the prospect of seeing him play when he signed but he isnt being given any time whatsoever on the pitch. You'd have thought it was an excellent idea bring in good young Premiership players on loan but theres no point at all in it if you wont then play them as also happened with Barrow. You might as well fill the bench with Academy lads and save the money on wages.

Once again Jason Lowe was utter tripe.

We need a man who can lead this team on the pitch, motivate, drive them on and forward and instill pride and guts into the team. He is NOT the person. Once he went off we played slightly better getting forward.

Feeney was awful.

Keep Lowe out, Marshall right back from now on, keep Feeney off and play the youngsters who might offer some creativity going forward as last night we had faff all.

its enough to want me to go back on holiday !

A tight game in which a well organised Wednesday simply snuffed out our danger men. Conway had two markers on him, as did Emnes who picked up an early knock. Wednesday always had a spare man in midfield which made it difficult for Evans and Guthrie and the latter's legs started to go in the second half. We may have been unfortunate with the offside decision but didn't create much in terms of clear cut chances. A draw would probably have been a fair result as Wednesday didn't really pose much of a threat and seemed more than happy to get everyone behind the ball and sit on their one goal lead. Like Rev, I was excited at the prospect of Samuelson, having seen him with West Ham's Under-21's last season, but having watched him at Leeds last week I'm not so sure he would have been the answer to our problems last night. He's rather lightweight and takes an awful lot of risks with the ball in his own half of the pitch. I must admit that I would rather have seen Akpan on instead of Feeney to add some drive in the centre of the pitch. Feeney looks a spent force. He reminds me a bit of Brian Hill and John Aston, two players whose careers were built on speed and who arrived at Ewood when their legs had either gone (Aston) or were going (Hill). A disappointing result, particularly with a very difficult game at Birmingham on Saturday. We are ten games in and that usually is a good indication of the type season we are in for but, nonetheless, I'm more hopeful of avoiding relegation now than I was after the first five games.

You're the first poster to say 'A draw would probably have been a fair result' Parson.

Sounded like Wednesday had one of the easiest nights they'll have all season, never looked under pressure and never looked like conceding? But again I wasn't there.

Rose tinted glasses.. Conveniently missing out all Wednesdays counter attacks and Steele keeping us in the game with a decent save

I honestly thought the game had 0-0 all over it in the early stages. Wednesday broke away and made the most of their one chance in the opening period. We got a little exposed near the end when we tried to force something but for most the game Wednesday were happy to sit back with two well drilled ranks of four that denied us time and space.

  • Backroom

If we got a 1-1 it would have been the heist of the century!

They have a great chance with a 1 on 1 from a few yards out and I thought that they should have had a penalty in the last minute but ref gave it outside the box.

Couldn't argue with the line up but it was clear as day we weren't getting anything unless we adapted and that's something that Coyle - like Bowyer is incapable of doing.

Poor tactics, poor subs from a very poor imitation of a manager.
