It wouldn't be gross misconduct either.

Not if you were an 18 yr old manual worker perhaps but if you're in one of the most high profile jobs in the world like the England job surely it would be.

I'd say any act that makes your position in the workplace completely untenable is gross misconduct by definition.

Whether you like it or not this was definitely entrapment by disguised reporters. If it had been the police they would not have been able to prosecute. It seems to me that Sam did nothing illegal anyway and it was certainly not gross misconduct.

Entrapment is when you induce someone to do something they wouldn't ordinarily do.

Are you saying Sam is squeaky clean and the telegraph tucked him up?

All he had to say was "sorry, not interested"

It looks like Sam was up for a bit of money, just like many others I imagine. Or their pet dogs ;). Sam's an odd one in the sense that he's not a flash character like Mourinho for example, yet he obviously likes the Spanish Villa and suchlike. He's like a pork pie with some fancy caviar, the 'solid, British food. No frills. With some expensive stuff to look worth it.

On the telegraph investigation

If the list I've just seen is true, IF it's true, football in England will never ever ever be the same.

Definitely saving the big fish till either Monday or mid/late next week. #corruption

He also tweeted this a couple of hours ago, could make things interesting. The FA obviously have no stomach to investigate. I don't know if they're complicit or just want to pretend that everything is rosey in the garden. Either way, they're not fit for purpose.

Police have asked to see @telegraph evidence re corruption. Football Association, Premier League and Football League are aware of this.

Dont think we have heard the last of referee Mark Halsey being told to say he never saw the incident with Nzonzi so he would be banned for 3 games. Betting in Far East with complicity from FA maybe?

Giggs, Redknapp, Hughes, Pulis, Pardew, Moyes,Bruce, Black alledgelly the 8

You could have written most of those names with little effort but Mark Hughes?

I personally would be devastated if Mark Hughes has been party to any of this, on the face of it, a man of principle a man of integrity, it could well finish me off in terms of football if he's involved in bungs, taking cash under the table etc.

The rest of them wouldn't surprise me.

Sorry but Hughsie comes with his own set of agents like a lot of managers do and there's been off the record smoke around some of his fellas dealing in the past.

Thing is managers have been getting kick backs forever so it's not unusual it's probably a given on most big deals. Just the amount they get now when they're already on big money is obscene, Hughes is old school as well and it seems they are all of that ilk.

You're probably right tomphil, I've never given it much thought to be honest in Hughes case, unlike Alalrdyces and Arrys which went without saying.

Question time panel just called for investigation, Steven Woolfe MEP especially, lets hope this finally kicks things into gear.

I hope in a way the alleged list of 8 "big" names does get confirmed next week as apart from unexpectedly catching Sam being a complete berk, the Telegraph revelations look in severe danger of fizzing out into a damp squib.

I'd treat the names mentioned above with extreme caution until confirmed, at the moment it looks as though the only foundation for the "8 names" is the drunken boasts of an Italian agent who might just have been giving it large in an effort to sound impressive.

The trouble with Twitter is anyone can make anything up, it gets re-created a million times and takes on a life of its own and becomes gospel.
