Backroom Mike E Posted January 12, 2017 Author Backroom Posted January 12, 2017 Heart attack this morning, apparently. Poor bloke. Nice guy, who refused to let his spell with England sour him.
chaddyrovers Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 RIP Mr Graham Taylor. My thoughts and Prayers are with his family and friends. Great footballing man. Used to enjoyed him talking football on Tv/Radio. Great knowledge.
A cup of beans Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Heart attack this morning, apparently. Poor bloke. Nice guy, who refused to let his spell with England sour him. Sad news. Always liked him, particularly as a pundit. Seemed a very likeable honourable guy. RIP
Gav Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Carlton, Carlton...... Decent bloke, very knowledgeable, served his time in the game and eventually ruined by the gutter press. RIP Mr Taylor.
tomphil Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Sad, always liked the guy despite the England disaster which he really shouldn't have got near but we know full well how all that operates by now. Walked into an impossible situation really after the massive over achievement of Italia 90. Absolute top club manager though and always shone through as a decent bloke with massive passion for the game, could listen to him all day unlike a lot of the muppets now. RIP
Kamy100 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Really sad news. I met Graham a few years ago at Ewood Park when he was covering a Rovers game for Radio 5 live. There is a press room in the Jack Walker stand were journalists congregate before going into the stadium, he was there as part of the Radio 5 Live team. We had a long chat about the lack of asian players in football and he was a very intelligent bloke who was interested in learning about possible cultural reasons. A year or so later I saw him again, he came across and he had remembered my name and we chatted again. I take people as I find them and he was a nice bloke. He refused to let his England experience make him bitter and twisted. RIP.

Jock Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 A Gentleman, no hidden agenda. Enjoyed listening to him on the radio.
Rover_Shaun Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I see The Sun never used a certain photo in their hypocritical tribute http://i2.walesonline.co.uk/incoming/article6992740.ece/ALTERNATES/s1227b/1Thats-Yer-Allotment.jpg
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I liked him as a pundit, he wasn't full of his own @#/? like most of them. Unfortunately he joined the long list of failed England managers.
onlyonejackwalker Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Sad news. Likeable bloke. Few airs and graces. Met him when I worked in football a few times. Said it as it was. Poor manager for England, but aren't they all. Villified in the press. Took Lineker off when we needed a goal! Did well domestically working with what he had. Nothing last forever. RIP.
arbitro Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I had the privilege of refereeing two of his teams (Watford and Wolves) several times and he was a true gentleman whose teams reflected his persona as they played with integrity and honesty. I always thought of him as one of the more intelligent managers and the conversations I had with him bear out what Kamy wrote. Commiserations to his family and friends. RIP.
McClarky Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 'Can we not knock it?'. Liked him a lot. Always came across as a nice man who loved his football. Very interesting pundit on the radio as well. The documentary on his time as Englsnd manager was priceless. If anyone hasn't seen it I would recommend you seek it out. It's like a phsychological drama on stress in the workplace. RIP
Claytons Left Boot Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I always put him in the same mould as Sir Bobby Robson, i.e. a genuinely decent and likeable guy. RIP.
Backroom Tom Posted January 12, 2017 Backroom Posted January 12, 2017 A very classy gentleman by all accounts, as always the gutter press hung him out to dry then act like they were close friends
A cup of beans Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 BBC 5 live's tribute is a fine portrait.
Audax Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I will always remember that match, 1993, vs. Netherlands, 2-2 final but they played really magnificently, http://englandfootballonline.com/Seas1990-00/1992-93/M0694Ned1993.html A number of good players and I believe Alan Shearer was injured and missed it. Looks like England lost to Norway, drew Poland in that '92/'93 qualification campaign but that one game was memorable for me with a lot of good players. Started out well.
Backroom Mike E Posted January 13, 2017 Author Backroom Posted January 13, 2017 Something to add to the Venkys Out campaign ofc! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2010/dec/17/graham-taylor-turkey-christmas?client=ms-android-tmobile-gb
Leonard Venkhater Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Something to add to the Venkys Out campaign ofc! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2010/dec/17/graham-taylor-turkey-christmas?client=ms-android-tmobile-gb Dead right. I never knew he had come out and said that.Good for him.Do I like that! It should be up there with the Ferguson and Whelan quotes. But doesn't it say so much about football culture that there are so few attributable quotes about the disgusting abuse of our club?!
