yoda Posted February 22, 2017 Author Posted February 22, 2017 Smaller world then, back to the team sheet, what would people give now for that team ?
JohnD Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 We couldn't afford Coddington now, we'd lose too many balls!
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Five full Internationals in our team and another few who played internationally at junior level. A couple of ex Rovers legends in the Stoke team along with John Mahoney who had trials with Rovers as a young player.

jim mk2 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Looks a strong Stoke team. Guess is around 1969. Who won?

League Cup 2nd round replay at Stoke after a 1-1 draw at Ewood. Rovers won 1-0 with Metcalfe scoring our goal. The team was as per programme but with Dick Mulvaney playing no 4. George Sharples was the sub. That would have been a good result as Stoke were a Div 1 side then.
jim mk2 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Thanks. Stoke were strong then. Alan Hudson went there a few years later. Coddington and Mulvaney were big stoppers. Could do with them now.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Putting aside the incomparable Keith Newton what wouldn't you give for a few of those players. Rogers, Hole or Metcalfe would make a massive difference to our lack of midfield creativity.

Have you got any Rovers home programmes from the 1940s - or even pre WW2 amongst your lot that you would be prepared to sell? I also have a few FA Cup programmes from the 1950s that I'm missing from my list...
JohnD Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Afraid not Andy my earliest is Leeds v Rovers March 1954

If anybody has any of the following I'd be most interested to hear from you: 1940s home league or FA Cup programmes pre 1992 home reserves programmes / teamsheets pre 1997 FA Youth Cup programmes / teamsheets (both home and away) any FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League or UEFA Cup teamsheets (both home and away) any old or unusual programmes pre 1988 replica or match worn shirts - NOT the ones sold in the club shop or available on Toffs
Exiled in Toronto Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I very much enjoyed watching this the other day even though we got tonked. Jim Smith's team, old Bloomfield Rd, muddy pitch, Gerald Sindstat, end-to-end stuff. I was in the Kop near Birdy who went increasingly bonkers as Hatton's goals went in. Hatton trick
