I've never heard him speak about the crash and it's aftermath before. It's brilliant that he seems to have found some happiness after it was all snatched away from him. He appears to be making a name for himself now in management too, 4th lowest budget yet top 6 nearly all season with Chorley is some achievement. Hopefully he gets promoted this season...and then eventually comes to manage Rovers when the MotherCluckers finally do one

Mike Graham Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Top guy. I have seen a few Chorley games this season and he has got them playing decent fit ball. Good luck at Chorley and so pleased to hear you are enjoying life. You deserve a few more breaks.
Gone to seed Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 It is a good read, and a shining endorsement of one of football's good guys. It is interesting that the likes of Scholes and Giggs share his enthusiasm for the non-league game. Perhaps that is where the real game has gone, as it is certainly absent around the empty draughty terraces of Ewood Park these days. I long for the days when going to Ewood was the highlight of my week. I miss the times when there was a real sense of excitement and anticipation when one (or more) of our players got on the ball. I am destroyed that all that really remains of our proud heritage (and my association goes back to 1972 when I went to my first game), is the blue and white shirt. I am appalled that the only real prospect of premier league football appears to be through following the dreams of our old boys, like Matt Jansen. I wish him well on his search for future glories. To the Loons of Pune, the shadowy shysters hiding and pillaging everything of value, I wish nothing but disappointment and distress. You are a disgrace to the game and the name of Blackburn Rovers. I hate you.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 A real favourite of mine. Good luck for the future Matt.
AllRoverAsia Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Top man and a top player. I remember how sad I felt when he had the accident. Really glad he is enjoying life and football. I know it's fate but Sven was a twohat.
arbitro Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Excellent article on one of the most skillful players I have ever seen at our club. What happened to him was tragic and it's really good to see him doing well in a tough environment. Hopefully he can get a job in the Football League and move up the managerial ladder. And a thoroughly decent guy too.

I hate you. So true. I have been to Chorley this season with 1,500 on and the atmosphere has been brilliant. They even serve chip butties and the Clubhouse serves real ale. Mind you we will probably get Mike Cheston serving pies behind the counter on the BBE concourse next season to save money. Smaller pies of course. Back to Matty what a lovely bloke, approachable and easy to talk to. Good luck, you deserve it for being decent.
Baz Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Fantastic natural footballer, such a tragedy that such a great talent was never able to fulfil his potential. In fact it's a tragedy for British football, that Matty, Dunny,Thommo and Duffer really had their prime cut off by injuries. Love the fact he has such feelings for this club.
JPTSwindon Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Very good article. I was at the Villa cup match where he got the 2 and I remember Hughes recalling him in his first game in charge and he got the winner against Pompey, He has done a great job at Chorley.
onlyonejackwalker Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I have often wondered how good he could have become. Very talented player that Ferguson tried to sign twice. Have worked for Jansen at his home on his 9 foot American Pool table. Pictures of Cardiff and the net bulging, signed shirts, plus other Rovers memorabilia in his games room. Genuinely nice guy, grounded and modest. Loved watching Duff, Jansen and Dunn in that Rovers team.

Loved watching Duff, Jansen and Dunn in that Rovers team. I loved that team, and I personally think Jansen would have gone on to be the best of the lot. He had a bit of the Bergkamp about him which means he could have prolonged his time at the top in a way Duff couldn't quite manage after his pace went. Such a sad end to a career that could have been legendary, but very happy to see him enjoying life again. I'd love for his professional compensation to arrive via a highly successful managerial career.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 The Burnley April fools day massacre,League Cup final, his header at Deepdale and Promotion....happy days. Great player, tragic end to his career but he appears to have found his feet at Chorley. Best of luck to him.
