[Archived] Election called for 8th June

Recommended Posts

Labour's 1997 slogan was Britain Deserves Better, which was a good slogan after 19 years of Tory misrule.

They should resurrect it for the forthcoming election. We deserve better than this hard-right vicious government.

Yeah and Damien Green mentioned " Strong and Stable Leadership " and the " Coalition of Chaos " within minutes, if  not seconds  of his first contribution on Question Time last night and then repeated it  . The message is slogans and the repetition thereof  seem to work in politics .  Just a few examples :

Labour Isn't Working - Conservative victory 1979

Long Term Economic Plan - Conservative victory 2015

Take Back Control - Leave the EU victory 2016

Strong and Stable Leadership - .................. ( I'll come  back on 8th June )

Coalition of Chaos - ................... ( as above )

Labour needs to get the hang of this . Perhaps :

" Do as we say , not as we do "

On second thoughts ....................... :)

Doesn't it sadden you that elections are won on slogans!

Reminds me of this utter drivel. The worst thing is, it seems people are buying it. :(

Sorry for the double quote, but I just came across this now.

Theresa May was asked if she knew what a "mugwump" was (this is what Boris Johnson called Jeremy Corbyn, if anyone hasn't heard).

Her response? "What I recognise is that what we need in this country is strong and stable leadership".

Yeah, she actually went there. Can enough people see through this garbage in six weeks? Probably not, they'll lap it up as long as she pretends to be strong about Brexit.

The worst part of this is how many previous labour voters bought into the same argument that Osbourne/Cameron thrived upon, and still do. Austerity is the poorest in society being forced to pay for mistakes of the rich and the greedy.

This chancer, shows what a complete farce politics and parliament can be, the expense of it for questions to be ignored and cheered like group of drunk idiots. If it's not completely ignoring facts, (or offering "alternative" facts like Trumps brigade of celebrity politics!) it's personally attacking the opposition.

The Royal College of Nursing has attacked Theresa May’s responses to questioning on nursing pay and foodbanks on the Andrew Marr programme.RCN chief executive and general secretary Janet Davies said:

Theresa May was explicitly asked to admit that it is wrong for nurses to be forced to use foodbanks in 2017. Not only did she fail to acknowledge it is wrong, she failed to even mention nurses or their work in her reply.

Nurses should not have to fund the NHS deficit from their own pay packets. Too many are struggling to make ends meet, turning to foodbanks and hardship grants in desperation.

Every year that the government holds NHS pay below inflation, hundreds of thousands of nurses get another real-terms cut to their salary.

“The government pay cap is fuelling a recruitment and retention crisis that is as damaging for patient care as it is for the nurses themselves. A growing number feel they can no longer afford to work in the profession and others are deterred from joining by the meagre pay on offer.

“After the election, for the sake of patient safety, the government must scrap the pay cap and fill the tens of thousands of vacant jobs.”

12 Months ago I'd have expected her dreadful performance on Marr this morning would have a real impact on the polls (her response to Nurses using food banks was a real 'let them eat cake' moment), however in this post-Trump era, it will probably just reenforce people's view that she's strong!

I think there is a genuinely belief amongst some sections of society that the only people using them are people unprepared to work, taking advantage of them so they have more cash for weed, whilst sat at home watching Sky on their 4K TV..

They just don't believe you can work a 40hr week and still and still not cover basic living expenses. It surprisingly hard to live economically when you have no money (c.f Sam Vines boots theory)

She makes my skin crawl. How can anyone vote for that?

She's ineffectual to say the least. They'll walk all over her in Brussels. A-Hard-Brexit-is-a Coming, and we will be left begging to the rest of the world for handouts.

It's staggering a man as knowledgeable in respect of the EU like Farage isn't consulted in the Breakaway

It's going to take diplomatic, constructive talks to fashion a good deal out of an increasingly likely hard brexit. Therefore the  last person you'd want representing Britain is Farage.

Who said anything about him holding talks with the idiot Juncker and EU? Farage is quite well educated/informed on the EU and surely there should be a place in assisting May behind closed doors.
