Eddie1363894574
Rovers slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Villa Park in a match where the home side always looked comfortable. Aston Villa took the lead 12 minutes into the match when Agbonlahor beat Salgado on the left-hand side and cut into the box before curling an effort into the far corner past a stranded Robinson. The home side then doubled their lead in the 25th minute thanks to Heskey's 20-yard strike. Robinson could do little about the first, but will be disappointed that he failed to save the former England striker's weak effort. Pedersen gave Rovers hope when he timed his run well to head home Hoilett's cross from close range, but the home side restored their two-goal lead when Hanley's block fell into the path of Bent and the Villa striker fired past Robinson. Petrovic made his debut when brought on in the 75th minute, but Rovers failed to create any chances in the closing stages and Aston Villa never looked troubled.
