Eddie1363894574 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Rovers took the lead only 66 seconds into the half when Gary Caldwell's mistake allowed Yakubu in behind the Wigan defence and the Nigerian's shot managed to creep into the corner of the net. Only five minutes in the home side had a strong shout for the penalty, but if they felt aggrieved, they wouldn't be behind for long as only two minutes later the ball dropped to Gomez on the edge of the area and his quick strike wrong-footed Robinson and found its way into the bottom corner. There were suspicions of offside as it appeared that a retreating player had obstructed Robinson's view. Rovers nearly retook the lead when Pedersen's free-kick hit the post when it had Al Habsi beaten, but it was Wigan who went ahead when Caldwell made up for his early mistake by heading home a corner. The Scottish international did well to get power and accuracy on the header from far out, but questions will have to be asked about how much space the defender had. Rovers have had long spells of possession, but have failed to create any chances and Wigan have looked far more threatening when they have gone forward. View full article
