[Archived] Crewe - FA Cup (Again!)

Recommended Posts

Does anybody other than Wards parents actually want this cup run to go on? I'd much rather the squad had a rest ready for the next league game. At least it's good for the rotation squad members.

My squad prediction:

                   Leutwiler

Caddis Wharton Ward Hart

Bennett Harper Evans Conway

           Gladwin Samuel

Subs

Fisher

Nyambe

Platt

Whittingham

Antonsson

Gladwin

Rankin-Costello

:rover:

  • If Ward doesn’t get a start vs a League 2 side to let the others have a rest, he might as well start clearing his locker.
  • I’ve not been impressed with Hart yet, but think he’ll start ahead of the U23 lads, although Travis could be on the bench.
  • I read at the weekend that Conway was expected to be fit for this game, but I don’t know how serious his injury was, as to whether he might be a sub rather than starting, in which case Antonsson will be on the right.
  • Tomlinson could also be on the bench instead of Whittingham?

I'd prefer to see Tony mix it up for this one

I'd like to see Wharton, Nuttall,  Tomlinson, Harper, Hart and Travis getting some serious game time.

The following players i'd say should not be risked at all and should be nowhere near the team:

Mulgrew

Downing

Raya

Bennett

Dack

Smallwood

With this in mind i'd go something like

                                Leutwiler

  Travis,            Ward,          Wharton,      Hart

  Tomlinson,    Evans,        Harper,       Conway

                           Samuel,   Nuttall

Subs:

FIsher, Platt, Nyambe/Doyle, Whittingham, Antonsson, Rankin-Costollo, Graham

Notes - I think Gladwin is still injured, if not then bench instead of antonsson

- If Conway is not fit then i'd go with Doyle at LB and Hart at LM

Mix it up as much as he wants and play as many youngsters as is feasible to do so. Personally i don't really care about the result in this although a lot will say carry on the feel good factor and winning mentality with a strong side and i understand that.

Cheston and the boys will want a full Darwen End team home draw next round but balls to it only one thing matters this season and it isn't a one off against a big local team to cater for their masses and our part timers.

Rest the key players and keep them fresh to continue the winning league run.

So pay 20 quid to watch the Rovers.

Exactly. Personally I can't see why we even bother referring to the opposition especially when its against lower league clubs. Don't care if that's arrogant after all the lack of respect this club has been shown maybe demanding it is the way forward. Should title it Rovers FAC R2 match, Rovers League game 19, etc. Promote it as Blackburn Rovers instead of promoting the opposition as well.

Look out for a lad called Chris Porter playing up front for Crewe. An old school mate of mine. He is from Wigan but went to QEGS from the age of 11-18. In the days when QEGS was a good school and attracted bright and sporting pupils from around lancs. (Sadly the school has gone rapidly downhill in the last few years)

Anybody around the age of 33-34 who played secondary school football in Blackburn and Darwen will remember him. He also played for the Blackburn town team.

I spoke to him yesterday and he is relishing playing on Ewood for the first time in his career. Most of his old school mates are Rovers fans and he has a soft spot for the Club.

He has scored a few this season. I wouldn’t bet against him sneaking a goal on Sunday!

I think we were looking at him when he was at Oldham if it's the same player.

Source: Lancashire Telegraph. Mowbary interview regarding injuries.

·         Conway to miss another week, to let his hamstring have a little longer to recover, although he has returned to full training.

·         Gladwin also to miss the cup tie, due to his on-going knee injury. He’s off to London to see a specialist, with no know return date.

Well that’s back to the drawing board for my squad prediction.

Rich Sharpe on twitter: “Wouldn’t surprise me to see Rovers go with a back three on Sunday as they did in the last round due to a shortage of fit wide players”.

In that case then, Caddis, Wharton and Hart at the back?

My god you'd be asking for a defeat. I see what you are trying to do by resting players but that back 3 could get a bit messy.......

I would like to see how Nuttall and Samuel works as a pair in front. Other than that, just rest the key players. I think it's even more vital now after that "4 games in 10 days" -run than usually.

I agree with giving nuttall and Samuel a go together. It could be a great pairing I think.

I think I am the exception... I'd like a cup run.

We should be able to get up, especially as those teams with smaller squads are starting to drop points with injuries / suspensions.  Therefore a few extra matches could (with the right draws) both generate some money and spark some interest to tempt back fans.

That said, we should be able to rotate against Crewe.  The likes of Samuel, Nuttell, Tomlinson, Wharton etc should be starting.  Dark etc on the bench just in case...

I know the league's more important but its pointless going on about it. We don't have a choice over whether to win this game or the following one. I do favor a heavily changed lineup as those who have featured most recently don't need a blow to morale right now. That might appear to be lacking faith a bit but I'm not being ultra negative saying "oh its definitely gonna be a loss" or "Rovers to be derailed". Pun intended on that last one.
