gumboots Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Is there any way in any kind of parallel universe that both Uruguay and Portugal can go out because if so I'll happily move tbdrd Quote

Tormund Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Really like this Uruguay team, solid all over with a couple of world class players. Best defence in the competition. I fancy them to get to the semi/final. 2 Quote

Husky Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Portugal score. Thank god for that. I don't think I could have stood a final 20 minutes of Uruguay diving all over the place and wasting time. Quote
Ladyboys of Bank Top Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Uruguay are the Burnley of international football. Two defensive banks of 4 and dull as shite. Glad Portugal scored. Quote

Husky Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Does the ITV feed keep showing close ups of Ronaldo's face when Uruguay score? ? Quote

SBlue Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 (edited) If anyone. ANYONE. Thinks that England getting past this stage in the competition is any barometer for success they need their heads checking. We got out of the group. There is no shame of going out now, to anyone. The standard of the football played today is so far beyond our capabilities it’s unreal. Fantastic game. davulsukur Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Suarez is an unbelievably frustrating footballer. The lad can really play but is an awful little human being, who blatantly cheats at every opportunity. Shame. That little girl Uruguay have at left back is pretty feisty though. Quote

This world cup has highlighted that there is a shortage of top quality defenders however Godin is an exception as he is world class as he showed again tonight. Quote

Uruguay were tipped weeks ago to do well by one of the South American correspondents on Talk Sport and I've been meaning to back them for ages and not done it but managed to get a tenner on them at 16/1 in play when they were 1 up which I thought was very good value considering. joey_big_nose Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 For me today has really emphasised that France and Brazil are the teams to beat. France blew Argentina away, and while Uruguay are fantastically organised and very effective on the break they lack creative quality and the ability to control games. Not sorry Portugal and Argentina are out. Neither of them should have got out of the group stage. Quote
Audax Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 (edited) In Brazil 2014, Uruguay was knocked out of the round of 16, 2-0, their opponent? Colombia. So, word to the wise! 2010 with Forlan, Uruguay in the semi-finals, so, they definitely seem like a bunch of good people..... well, one can think of Luis what they want.... but congrats to them. The standard of the football played today is so far beyond our capabilities it’s unreal. Fantastic game. Maybe theres no shame of going out to Colombia, a very good team, but of course how far we go should be a barometer for success. The group we got put in was incredibly weak in that Tunisia and in particular Panama are far inferior. Progression from that whilst of course being positive to see should have always been fairly elementary and so it proved. The route we have is also favourable, if we go out to Colombia in the last 16, its hardly a minnow and they might feel the same about it, but it would not be a successful tournament if we go out on Tuesday night. I think you are underestimating the quality in the England team too, Kane, Alli and Trippier are all key for Tottenham, Lingard and Young for Man United, Stones, Walker and Sterling for City and Henderson for Liverpool, thats the majority of our team playing key roles for the Premier League top 4, we are short of the likes of Brazil, Spain and France but we arent of the quality (or lack of) that renders last 16 elimination as a success. Husky Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 No VAR controversies in the knock-out phases so far. Perhaps it's all building up for Tuesday. . . Quote
