Like Linekar just said they need to change the rule so that am contact with the hand is handball because the current rule just allows a decision to be made which favours one team or another.

 

The problem with changing the rule is that an attacker who is running down a blind alley and going nowhere could win a penalty by deliberately wellying the ball at a defender's hand as hard as possible and the ref would have no option but to give it.

The rule is fine as it is whereby it theoretically has to be deliberate. The problem was that the ref got it right, VAR got it wrong   then the ref felt pressured into changing his decision.

Likely to be brushed under the carpet as irrelevant now but it wasn't really as it completely changed the dynamics of the game.

Wonder what might have been had that decision not been given or had 8 minutes been added onto the first half rather than 3 at a stage when Croatia were creating lots of chances. Once again France fall on the right side of it.

In the end it is a referee mistake, and not a VAR mistake. BUT the video panel could have pressurised him into it, it that's the case it's absolutely disgusting from the panel, and ALSO definetly a VAR mistake.
