I noticed Kirstie Alley - Emmy winning Cheers actress died yesterday from cancer.

I love cheers, her character Rebecca Howe wasn’t as good as Diane, but superb non the less.

Jet Black of The Stranglers has died at the age of 82. By my reckonings he must have been in his mid 30s then when punk exploded onto the scene. Twice the age of Paul Weller!

Terry Hall from The Specials has died, aged 63. One of my favourite bands, so this one hits a bit different. I’m blessed to have been able to see them live a few years ago with the full line up.

One from King George’s a few years back. Played for hours - a phenomenal set, absolutely no filler. One of the most important bands there has ever been.

RIP - certainly among the top 3 or 4 players ever to kick a ball. In my lifetime I think Maradona was better but now is perhaps not the time for that debate.

On the day he got elected as pope I was at a dinner with members of the board of the organisation I worked for at the time. I said “I knew the German had won when I saw the beach towel draped over the balcony at St Peters”. The elderly board member sitting opposite laughed so much her false teeth popped out and fell in her soup!!

No, I think most kids in Germany ended up in the Hitler Youth. You didn’t have much choice in the matter from what I read.

Having said that his views on life were way out of line with modern, profressive thinking.

Not many survive pancreatic cancer. He managed to beat it once but not twice. One of the trailblazers of the premier league, never liked Chelsea but him, Gullitt and Zola were eminently likeable players.
