When everybody is fit Wharton would be fourth choice at best. It makes sense to get him out playing at the highest level possible to gain much needed experience. Clearly the club value him to give him a new deal but feel he isn't quite ready yet.

It makes sense to me.

Once again absolute madness for me. You'd think the alternative was John Terry at his peak not Elliot Ward.

It's like finding gold in the bottom of the garden, then loaning it out for someone else to wear so you can rock up wearing a load of cubic zirconas.

To be honest I haven't seen much of Wharton in the first team. I cited inexperience as the main reason to loan him out. What qualities do you think he can bring to the first team should he be selected?

He came in under Coyle last season in the championship and did very well imo. Also looked ok this season apparently when trusted with a run out in the mighty Check a trade trophy.

Don't understand this mindset that because they're only a certain age players can't possibly be good enough for us whereas if they're over a certain age they're trusted implcitly irrespective of ability or lack thereof.

Mulgrew, Downing, Williams, Darragh, Wharton and Ward. Even forgetting Matty Platt, that’s far too many to give game time and I think if he’s guaranteed to start at Donny, it’s a no brainer.

No way is he behind Williams or Platt. I’m not even convinced he is behind Downing in ability. There is more to this one. I’m not expecting Wharton to play for us again.

He only.signed a new contract a couple of months ago though Stuart so Mowbray must see something in him to sign off on the contract. He has been out injured for a length of time so perhaps him going out on loan and playing some matches will benefit both him and us in the long run

Mulgrew could be out for a while, Lenihan isn' t even back yet, Williams ain't a specialist CB and Ward is useless.

Madness to even contemplate sending him out on loan imo.

Williams ain’t a good attacking full back, I think he could be a better centreback for us long term. We have no idea on Mulgrew, Darragh is a week or two and that still gives us Downing and Ward. I agree with you if Charlie/Lenihan are our long term but realistically how much time will he get?

Lol @Biz - confused just for a change.

Hope you get the help you need pal.

Williams is an experienced pro, who probably suits a high pressing left CB role as over the LB position because he’s not particularly “quick footed”, remember his “wing back” display against Donny...? He’s decent in the air which is the main requisite of this division. I wouldn’t be too quick to write him off in that position.

I’ve not watched Wharton play in the u23s so I’d just follow the assumption he’s not quite up to it yet. I don’t buy into some internal problem that’s forcing him sideways, there’s literally nothing to suggest it. Hence why it’s confusing to see someone suggest he will never play for us again, and it’s for some nefarious reason nobody will ever truly know.

I would’ve preferred a “Yawn” button TBF

Asked about transfers, the manager says: “We’ve still got a few questions out there for clubs, but I generally feel that we got our business done early with the targets we wanted. I’m not anticipating a busy one on Wednesday, but let’s see." #Rovers

Tony finishes up with some more team news, saying: “Darragh is probably a week away, Antonsson and Gladwin maybe 10 days, and Corry could be in the squad tomorrow." #Rovers

From Mowbray's comment at the top about transfers I would suggest maybe 1 player coming in at best.

So that Rothwell isn't set to sign then?

Making room in the squad for Gally I'd imagine

Next season I would think. Bennett is the central midfielder we needed but didn't know we had! I'm sticking to outgoings, they're easier.

Wharton going to Doncaster on loan assuming Mulgrews injury isn't bad.

This will be a good move for Scott who needs first team football.  He's not had the best of season's with the Under-23's and Matty Platt - out for a few weeks with injury now - Joe Grayson and Charley Doyle have all done well playing in a back three and Tyler Magloire came in on Friday for Scott and had a pretty decent game.  Scott can only benefit from testing himself against better players and will return a better player for the experience.  At the moment he's unlikely get ahead of Mulgrew, Downing or Williams in that position.

Not a clue what the obsession with Wharton seems to be, conceded goals for fun last season if you look at when he played. Not to mention the FA cup this season.

Not ready, send on loan.

'he'  alone conceded goals?

Magloire looked like a very decent prospect. It will be very interesting to see how he progresses.

All this and Stephen Caulker is training with Luton.

By the way, Grayson is useless.  He's playing further back every season.....never a player but got a dad in the game,

Grayson's been excellent this season playing in a back-three.  Centre-back looks his natural position and enabled him to give a number of impressive performances this campaign.
