To be fair, theres an element of truth in that, hes failed both times hes played in the league above it.

I can see him getting more but depends on how much we allow him to be a goal threat and not all that much else imo.

If we play him like it sounds Bolton did then he's probably not going to be scoring that many, if we take his weaknesses on the chin like we did with Rhodes, then I can see him getting 10-15 quite easily.

The trouble is nobody at our level plays with two up front anymore and I can't see him playing up front on his own. So he gets shunted out wide most of the time. The new Matt Derbyshire ?

The lad is pure quality on his day. His pace on the break would be deadly for us if we get promoted. I pray we keep him for another season at least. Wish he could persuade Jacob Murphy to join him here too.

He seems to be relishing the narrow role behind Graham and the attacking football that Mowbray likes to play. At Bolton I assume he was pushed out too wide and he did not like that role. This guys pace and finishing is top class and if he can adapt to this role further as he is now - he might still have a Toon career yet. Prove he can cut it in the Championship with us next season (if we make it) and there is just one more league to master. I really think he could do it in the championship - he has the qualities at least.

Tyrone when we removed Samuel and put Armstrong there vs Bradford the game completely changed. Granted we were all over them throughout but we looked like we could score every time we got the ball for the brief spell he lead the line.

I could see him, Graham and Dack being a powerful front 3. The only issue being is that all 3 players are narrow so unless you have top full backs bombing on all the time it becomes a bit too congested.

Armstrong is good enough to play up front on his own but I think playing him with a Graham type player, who will hold the ball up and find his runs from deep, is where his real potency lies. I think Mowbray sees that too as it's exactly the way he's been playing even when out wide. He comes inside and makes that terrifying diagonal run across that every centre back hates. If we can maintain the quality passes from Dack and Graham then I'm sure, even from a wider position, he'll continue to score goals for Rovers.

As for Newcastle - @#/? em. Their loss is our gain. Signing Armstrong next season is an absolute must in my opinion. Not only has he scored goals for fun since coming to us he's scored goals for fun every time he's played under Mogga.

Its a no-brainer, he enjoys playing for Mogga and does well for him. He will be here next season one way or another (unless Toon go down)

You can play a slight but quick guy up front but the service in to him has got to be first class otherwise it's a real arse kicking job.

One of the standout memories of Tuesday night at Doncaster for me was Armstrong's instant control of a long diagonal ball he received near the corner flag in the second half. It was tied to his laces in an instant.Some top international players would struggle to control a ball like that. It produced gasps of admiration from the support and a round of applause.

None too shabby getting it on target or playing others in when in dangerous positions either.

That was excellent, especially in those conditions ?

 

But...I also remember about five needless or clumsy heavy touches that went out for goal kicks and throw ins. Not a great game by him on Tuesday but a fantastic contribution since his arrival.

So good in parts excellent control when stationary not so good when on the run

I think he struggled more than anyone on that pitch. He was running faster than the ball could travel at times and it kept getting stuck in his feet.
