The following year we drew Man Utd and same thing happened again. Infamous trip on the ball by ‘Basil’ Rathbone to let Gordon Strachan in on a frozen pitch. Game wouldn’t have been played now.

Man Utd went on to win the cup 1-0 v Everton when Whiteside scored a pearler and future Rover Kevin Moran made history as first player to get a red card in the Final.

David Downing wrote about it in Passovotchka, the story of Dynamo Moscow's 1945 British tour. Mill manager Clement Charnock was credited with starting things off in 1887 (due to his love of the game and to give the workers something worthwhile to do on their day off). Rovers kits were brought over, but local enthusiasm was lacking and Charnock appeared to call it a day after a year or so.
