chaddyrovers Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 We need a win and I fully expect it. My team would be Raya Nyambe Downing Williams Bell Bennett Smallwood Payne Dack Armstrong Graham subs:- Luetwiler Caddis Travis Samuel Conway Nuttall Wharton I'm going for 3 nil Rovers win

Backroom Mike E Posted January 28, 2018 Backroom Posted January 28, 2018 Smart team that, Chads! I don't expect a win, but I demand it!
Garage Flower Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Can’t disagree with that team. Obviously Tony had to play it smart and wait before throwing Payne and Armstrong in the starting 11 straight away, Samuel and Conway can’t say they’ve done enough to keep their place. Williams looked okay at centre half and I though Bell look really impressive, looked exactly what we’ve been missing at full back although I think Nyambe has vastly improved past few weeks. I expect a win Tuesday.
frosty Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Agree the team needs mixing up a bit, on the wings especially, so would go with something similar to the above. No excuses here, no matter how bad the ref is or how long people think their keeper is taking with each goal kick, a win is a must. Hope to see us create more chances than yesterday and get more shots on target, too. 2-1 Rovers I'll say.
philipl Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Need to collect the three points from this one. Big chance to make a top two place albeit with more games played.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 28, 2018 Moderation Lead Posted January 28, 2018 The team needs a shake up in attack and I wouldn’t be sorry to see Conway and to a lesser extent, Samuel miss out.
blueboy3333 Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 After that load of cobblers yesterday let's hope the Saddlers don't ride off with any points. ToMo needs to whip the mighty Rovers into shape and have them ready at the gun. I'd drop Conway and/or Samuel and give Payne a run out. Not been overly impressed by Armstrong so far but it might be the right time to start him from the off too. Not sure I'd drop Graham though. He's a bit of a homer if the stat of 6 goals from his last 7 games at Ewood that I read in the LT is true. Maybe play 2 up front and do something crazy like 4-4-2. Maybe the world's not ready for that yet.
1864roverite Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Will be watching from the barren lands of Durham due to work must win 2-1 Rovers
Cherry Blue Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Our first meeting with Saddlers this season so hope Mowbray has had his spies out and knows what to expect. We need a convincing 3 0 win then this thread is good to read for the rest of this week (at least)

tomphil Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Similar to Saturday I fear, must start with an expansive and direct running forward line, early goal tails up and they'll be fine. Not sure it'll happen. Rovers 1 Walsall 1
benhben Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Watching the game v Northampton at Ewood the main points i noticed were, Whilst Nyambe gets a lot of stick for his limited defensive skill set he was often Rovers main outlet. Looked to get forward at every opportunity and his pace and strength were impressive. Players bounce off him. We don't have anyone near to displacing him. If he had a better final ball he probably wouldnt be at Rovers for much longer before interest from elsewhere. Conways legs have gone in terms of pace. He still puts in 100% effort and kept going but cant get past a man. He would be more suited to a 3 man centre midfield similar to bennett in away games, not on the wing at home. Armostrong or Payne must play from the start especially at home. Samuel, as everyone has said not a winger. Looked much happier up front but unlike Conway doesnt put a shift in. There were more moans in the crowd about Samuel than Conway. Williams is terrible on the ball and looks small for a centre back. Surely a specialist U23 centre back like Wharton would be a better choice? Maybe better to draft in alongside the more experienced Mulgrew than Downing. Unlikely to be tested too much in this game though. Same team as the first post or (assuming mulgrew is out): Raya Nyambe Downing Williams Bell Smallwood Payne Dack Armstrong Nuttall Graham

We got to stop with two holding midfielders at home. Id probably have Armstrong alongside Graham though - he is a striker (20 goals in this league before) and has not looked good out wide. Would have Bennett or someone else behind.
Fred in his Shed Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Not often I want a Walsall win, but a draw will be fine. Oztumer is a great little player, and really should be playing a higher level.

Don't mean to put the BOOT in but this is a serious game with teams hot on our HEELS. I heard there a dirty side. Always going in with KNEE HIGH challenges. I hope the TRAINERS have done their homework on the oppostion and got our lot PUMPed up to go and hopefully the fans make the noise so the stupid goal music doesn't need so much WELLY
BlackburnEnd75 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 We're playing another team thats presumably going to come here park the bus and hope to nick one. With Mulgrews injury and our problems out wide i'd go: Raya Nyambe Downing Williams Travis Smallwood Bennett Bell Dack Graham Armstrong Bench: Leutwiler, Wharton, Caddis, Conway, Payne, Samuel, Nuttall

I would like to see us play 2 upfront

Walsall have a relatively mean defence for a bottom half side so we have to go at them from the off.

I think the main problem we had when we tried this against Doncaster (We were woefully bad) was the wingbacks were caddis and Williams, they played as full backs instead of wingbacks we had no pace and no outlet. I think thats a more attacking lineup. I think it might help us dominate games more and is less susceptible to the counter attack as we often are in a 4-2-3-1 when we've bombed the full backs on. Like you say gotta go at them from the off, I mention it every week but if we press early (like we did against Shrewsbury) then not many teams can live with that at this level. 14 minutes ago, Tyrone Shoelaces said: You'd play Travis instead of Payne ? As a right Wing Back yes.
