Cherry Blue Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Obviously Gillingham don't have any respect for away fans and don't take their football seriously enough. Calling the game off at 1130 is crazy. Their ground should be closed and points deducted.

Gillingham, desperate for cash, wanted the game played so pushed it to the limit against weather forecast predictions whilst not caring about our long distance travelling fans and team. It was only called off when it became obvious that the weather forcast was accurate and that their 3rd World Scaffolding End Stand would not be able to cope and would be dangerous. This is the fault of Gillingham FC and they need punished. It is a scandal in the modern age.
matt83 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 From the picture of the away end it seems like a couple of hours graft from a few blokes with shovels and a few bags of grit would have got that “dangerous” stand sorted.

Barely any snow on ground but if the problem.with 1 stand maybe Gillingham should have come up better plan like some grit. Grit on the seats would give a lot of sore arses though

MarkBRFC Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 I'm guessing Tuesday 10th April is fave for this? Unless they delay it until last week of the season and play it on Tuesday 1st May.

If the match had been called off yesterday based purely on a weather forecast the board would have been in meltdown. Perhaps the sensible option would have been for the two clubs to liaise earlier and for BRFC to offer refunds on tickets for those who didn't want to risk traveling? The weather risk has existed for a few days.

That's what I thought too. Maidstone match just down the road is still on as are matches at Dover and Colchester not too far away. I bet they have uncovered stands.

tomphil Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Snowflakes beat snowflake ! A few bags of grit on the steps prempting the dusting of snow that was forecast ALL week then a few lads with stiff brushes along each row, job done in an hour what an absolute farce. Who's in charge of the Gills ground Lancashire county council ?????
Backroom DE. Posted March 17, 2018 Backroom Posted March 17, 2018 Still the only game in the PL, Championship, L1, L2 or the National League to be called off. Surely some kind of investigation needs to be done if that remains the case?
skous18 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 No snow at all around the stadium that’s pathetic

Sevenoaks fc is on for ffs. southern counties east league premier division equivalent of padiham or bootle. Not sure if it’s the call of the police or the club but the latter should be fined for incompetence for not getting that stand safe. As had already been said they are tin pot.
Bigdoggsteel Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Has any other game in the country been called off? This is a farce

The weather risk has existed for a few days. It's irrelevant what this board thinks. Stop trying to be clever. Fans have travelled hundreds of miles to attend a game that should have been called off yesterday. Gills FC knew the situation and did nothing until it was far too late.

Correct ... if weather never going to be a problem why did they bother covering the pitch? . Maybe covers should have been thrown over the open seats in that stand ? Should have been called off yesterday or Rovers fans should have been re housed with Gills fans being told in advance of seating changes.
Oldgregg86 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Apparently some fans came over from California

Gills FC knew the situation and did nothing until it was far too late. This is the point. The photograph from the local paper shows the stand isn't going to be safe today but Gillingham knew this would be the case for several days - or prayed the Met Office had got it wrong. It boils down to greed on Gillingham's part. They wanted to get the game played but at the same time having seen the conditions aren't going to risk Rovers fans suing them in the event of injury - which might well happen.
matt83 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 It’s debatable whether conditions are such that it should have even been called off mere hours before ko anyway never mind the day before. But suppose once Gillingham had made the decision to do sod all about clearing a minuscule amount of snow from thevaeay end may as well have called it off. Along with a big fine and reimburse travelling fans.
