Serious question. Does it not get a tad boring tubbing sides with League 1/2 budgets 5-0 every week? Yes another title, wooo! Stick it to the Huns!

But a little empty after a while?

At this point it's pretty much just a participation award for Celtic.

Ligue 1 with worse weather. Shame as positions 3-12 in the Scottish Prem are usually a constantly changing entity year by year, but well overshadowed by the 'Oxford won the boat race because Cambridge sank' above them.

That’s an interesting comparison. Never heard of folk comparing the Scottish Premiership with French top flight football before. I don’t take too much interest in French football, so I can’t really comment although a fair few leagues in Europe will surely have worse weather than those in France.

Ligue 1 is infinitely better than the Scottish Premiership.

I meant the perpetual one horse race at the top overshadowing what everyone else is doing.

Much like the Bundesliga of recent.

However, Bayern's dominance is more due to how the TV rights are negotiated in Germany as each club negotiates individually, or they did I'm not sure if they changed that.

Below them though it's unbelievably competitive and the 50+1 rules for club ownership are a huge factor in that. Interestingly, Bayern are trying to abolish this rule.

The SPL has always been a joke since it's very inception, there's only ever been two teams dominant and now there's not even that. IMO it really needs sorting out.

Got to say I can’t help but have a wry smile at the moaning, bleating and outrage from United fans, at the Rangers fans being in the home areas at Old Stratford.

For years this lot have been in home ends across the country, well you got a bit of your own medicine and you don’t like it, food for thought maybe……

I sat in the home end at Anfield once.  Some people from work got me a ticket to watch rovers Liverpool for my birthday.  I kept looking at this guy 4 seats down from me he stared at me.  It was Mark Wright.  This was in 1998

Sounds like Alan’s Partridge’s Blue Peter Purvis anecdote.

There is no myth. No one has said the likes of Celtic and, to a lesser degree, Rangers would have an immediate chance of winning the Premier League. There is too much of a disparity in income for that to be a sensible suggestion.

Aston Villa’s (hardly a middling club these days) annual turnover for 2023-24 stood at €310m, which equates to circa £270m, against Celtic’s £125m. So well over double that of Celtic. Ollie Watkins is probably worth nearly as much as the whole Celtic first eleven alone. There just is no comparison at present.

However, given a run of say five years in the EPL and, benefiting from the massive jump in tv revenues, sponsorship, corporate revenues etc., I’ve no doubt that both Celtic and Rangers would make a good fist of being there or thereabouts.

The fan bases of both Scottish clubs are huge and most of the clubs in the EPL would give anything to have the same. You need to go to Glasgow, stay up there all day, sample the atmosphere in the city and take in a game to understand just how big the two clubs are. You’ll never get it, if you don’t.

Anyway, Celtic and Rangers playing in the EPL will never happen. The current chairmen of the English clubs would be scared stiff of the added competition and, therefore, never vote in favour, if ever the opportunity arose.

*Edit.. Manchester City’s t/o for the same period £715m!

Who the hell thinks the current Rangers set up can win the Premier League? They struggle enough up there.

The argument has always been, as clubs with enormous fanbases, add PL money to the equation and they would compete in time - which of course is why they’d never get a seat at the English football table as Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas.

Nobody in their right mind would think they can compete with the top clubs in England right now. Surely not even the most die hard old firm fans could be that daft.

A good 5-10 years of being in the Premier League would certainly see them rise up to compete with the big clubs but I can't see that happening.

I don't think even in 10 years they'd compete. Aston villa spurs etc have spent millions over the last few years and barely compete for the top 4. I also don't think they'd attract absolute top players like the likes of city Chelsea and Liverpool have done

Last time Queen's Park beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup, crossbars weren't mandatory.

Davidson has pedigree in this competition already, he was in charge when St Johnstone did the Cups double in 2020-21. They won both games 1-0 with the same player scoring a header in the 32nd minute. Craig Conway played in the League Cup final but was only on the bench for the Scottish Cup one.

Why not? If you were a top player and you had a choice of playing (in the same league) at Stamford Bridge or Celtic Park every week, which one would you choose?

I just don't think top players dream of playing for rangers or celtic. Especially rangers

Most top players are millionaires regardless of who they play for, so presumably their next criteria after money would be playing in big, full stadiums packed with passionate fans. Whatever you think of the Old Firm, they have huge fan bases (probably only bettered by two premier league clubs and even then its arguable).
