Please don't tell me you plan on Conway starting Left wing

No, but I wouldn't put him on the right either: or in the team at all.

I would play Bennett down the left and Chapman down the right.

Bennett on the left? I know he can play a number of positions but never seen him anywhere on the left.

Think I would rather just sign a left winger.

Delighted with this. Not sure exactly what I'm basing this on, but I never saw Lenihan as the type to commit to such a long deal, especially after the Sheffield United rumours last year. Maybe having such a good second half of the season after a long term injury has helped him think differently about being here, not sure.

Whisper it, but this is starting to look like quite a promising summer. We're still desparately short of help for Graham and pace out wide/up front, but the rest of the side is looking very decent imo.

I am seeing the Lenihan business, as a barometer for the club's progress.

I got the clear sense that he really wanted out, when we got relegated.

He is an international, who is only likely to improve and now we have him on a long term contract.

So far, so good (..but you know what happens next lol)

Yeah but the other fella was saying we needed two right wingers.

Decent shout Chris Martin, solid enough striker very experienced at CHampionship level - thought he was on the verge of signing for QPR though.

Did we come up against any standout target men in League 1 last season? Was it Plymouth who had a guy?

I would class Graham as a good target men personally. He can win headers, shield the ball with his arse and his hold up play and lay offs are excellent. There are bigger players who can't do what he does

My only concern is his hit and miss goalscoring record. Never better than 1 in 3.

Wonder how much Jack Marriott would set us back?

I am not sure if he has been snapped up, but he is only 29, he did well with Fulham and Derby don't seem to want him for some reason.

The one good thing that has come of this window is we currently have 2 ins and 2 outs. Both outgoing players are 30+ and both incoming are 25 and under. A promising sign for the future of this club.

Without a doubt though we need to bring in a goalscorer. If Graham gets injured, and he's hardly prolific at this level, then we are left with players that don't inspire much confidence. A couple of goalscorers, one permanently and maybe a young lad on loan, will set the squad up nicely.

A left back/centre back is also another priority for me. I don't think we've been strong enough there for some time now.

Marriott was non-existent in the games against us last season. One season wonder written all over him.

You can't really judge Marriot on the games against us he was feeding off scraps. In the game at Ewood he had only returned from injury

True but 1 in 3 is not bad for a target man type, Graham got a similar ratio the season just gone and that was a division lower. As long as he can hold the ball well enough to bring the the 3 behind into play and net a decent amount - id be more than happy.

Marriott's CV reads similar to Rhodes' when he came here. Early 20s, off the back of an incredible season in League One, done the business for the last couple of years scoring every other game on average, came through at Ipswich but sent out on multiple loans to a variety of lower league clubs, then let go by Ipswich and goes from strength to strength since leaving them.

I'd expect he'd cost multi-millions which shouldn't be a problem if the owners wanted to do it but I don't think they really do want to do it so likely won't happen.

It would be nice to bring in at least one 'big' signing - a statement - icing on the the cake etc. I'm not suggesting going silly or spending silly wages but someone like Marriott would be the sort - goalscorer, interest from numerous clubs, sought after etc.

I can practically guarantee a left back isn't any sort of priority for TM though. He clearly rates Williams, and also brought in Bell in January for half a mill. There is almost no chance he moves for a specialist left back again (except maybe some cheap 18 yr old project). Maybe if he can't find a centre back for the right price and wants to play 3 centre backs, moving Williams inside, but I doubt he will be unable to find a centre back.

Totally agree on the rest though.

What else can I judge him on? :) Whatever the reason he was poor both games. Peterborough had some good wingers, so must have had decent service to get the goals he got. I will be interested to see if a championship club takes a gamble on him.

Utility man, past it, central midfielder, new winger, striker.

Too many ineffective square pegs in round holes there chaddy.

Second point I acknowledge that we need 2 minimum. As mentioned previously if we sign Kent wed probably be under financial pressure to play him in every game. Not sure where the rumour has come from, if its Alan Nixon i doubt its true.

Lets hope we dont get a centre back then!

From the squad we have now, and with/without new winger, new cb, new striker as you mentioned you want. No plan a b c or d's. What would you say our best team is?

Bennett plays his heart out for this club. can play a number of different positions which you need at times in football.

Disagree on Conway

Rothwell played wide 11 times last season including at Ewood Park against us. Plus Mowbray mention him as inverted winger.

Armstrong played wide during his time here mostly

The Kent rumour came from Nixon and he was right about us signed Davenport permanent.

my team would be for the 1st game. I haven't including any potential signings but Depending who we sign my line up could very well change

                        Raya

Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Williams

           Smallwood Davenport

Bennett         Dack              Rothwell

                      Graham

Wonder if Mowbray would look at Moses Odubajo?

Left Hull, quick, established right back. Only problem could be injuries but he would be a good addition, competing with Nyambe.

great shout. would be good wing back option for us. I would be deffo looking at him

Chris Martin's wages would be too much for us

Marriott would cost over 4 million and far too much for us. Remind me of a Jordan Rhodes type of player
