TruRover Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I'm resigned to nothing happening today, which is a shame because I really liked the idea of Freeman - Dack - Palmer behind Graham. Massive dissapointment not to get any perm deals as clearly the money was there. We missed out on some really really good deals over the summer, Edwards and McGinn being the two I am most gutted about. Imagine if we had brought in Rothwell, McGinn, Palmer, Edwards and Armstrong, along with a decent back up striker on loan. Would of been excellent business. We would of brought in a balance of high quality players and good back up options, along with players who have big potential for high resale. Were gonna have to make do with what we have and although I am dissapointed with this window I have faith in TM and the players from last season to step up. Who knows we could do a millwall and challenge the top end. But we have defo missed out on some good players who were seemingly in our price range. 1

AAK Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 "Everton defender Matthew Pennington is to return to Leeds United on a season long loan after a successful spell at the club last season, Pennington has turned down Wigan athletic and Blackburn rovers in favour of a return to Elland road!" From Everton fans forum

As it stands our first team for the Millwall game is the same first team that ended the season which wasn’t what was needed. Still time..... Even Chaddy? Who knows the square root of Jack Shit.

Our first 11 is more than good enough to hold its own.But an injury to any of Graham, Dack or Raya and we could be in trouble. We do need more quality coming in tho 1

It couldn't be more threadbare. Have people forgotten Armstrongs favoured position is up front? No, but he isn't the same kind of player as Graham and he certainly won't hold the ball up for the likes of Dack like Graham does. Graham's ability to hold the ball up is integral to the way we play.

Would you also be more than happy to Finish 14th and then the likes of Dack and Lenihan leave to go to clubs with more ambition which would no doubt happen. Its typical of our luck over the last few years Venkys finally appear to have stumped up some decent money and now the manager won't spend it Finishing 14th in our 1st season is an achievement and then season after we can challenge for playoffs season after. Dack and Lenihan comments why they signed new contracts are interesting both say cos of the manager. Must be doing something right. 1

God help us if Dack and Graham get knocks. Any team that loses their top 2 attacking players are going to be in trouble. Palmer is back up for Dack as a 10 and can push for a start out wide so we are stronger there. Rothwell or Davenport could force their way in over the next few months in CM. Anyways we aren't risking getting by until January with what we have. The loan window doesn't shut until the end of the month and we'll just pick someone up there on a loan to buy or just a loan. I'd rather we not spend money for the sake of it.
tomphil Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I think TM was just doing Boro a favour with Freeman and getting a bit of publicity and excitement going for Rovers at the same time, casting a bid out and opening it up for Boro maybe.

Bepeja43 Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 I felt last nights 'bid' for freeman was a nonsense.. I reckon its as I suggested, our budget for perm signings was used up entirely on Armstrong.. Loans only now.
Backroom Tom Posted August 9, 2018 Backroom Posted August 9, 2018 I think it’s going to be Gallagher and Chapman on loan after their clubs see deals through. Be happy if they are with a view to perm deals
Guest Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Mowbray has said it's gonna take time to challenge top end of this league, 2/3 windows were his exact words. Hopefully we have/get enough in the loan window for a lower mid table finish and push on next season from there.

Hypothetically if a club paid the market value for a player and the club agreed to sell..and said player was still yours for another 12 months...would you not see that as good business? Because you said it was a good deal for Wigan and then mentioned Lenihan in your next sentence. If we got 6 million for Lenihan and he was loaned back, no I wouldn't think it was good business because he wouldn't be our player anymore. So he would always be outside of the squad and the managers long term thinking and planning Edited August 9, 2018 by Bigdoggsteel

One problem this squad is not good enough to finish 14th . Its a squad that is barley any better than the squad that struggled to get out of League 1. A relegation battle looms unless something happens in the next 2.5 hours. 1
