He's not a central striker and he's not a winger. If we continue to play Dolan on one wing, and I hope we do, and Thomas on the other, there's just no place for Brereton at present. And I think he'll be sub while Gally is fit to play Gally is prospering playing where he should always have been. I've lost emotional issue with Brereton going, I'm just angry he's going for nothing (again!). Quote
SuperBrfc Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 How is it possible to have a striker who scores 28 league goals for us one season, yet we manage to finish 15th that very season? (No answer required) Having said that, 64 goals in three and a half seasons is good going. Fair play to him. Quote
Popular Post frosty Posted July 2, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 2, 2023 A 28 goal striker, the pick of the PL loans in Harvey Elliott, an improved Brereton, Rothwell, and being able to bring in the likes of Harwood-Bellis and numerous other loans without selling anybody........and a 15th place finish. Well done Tony. Hated that season apart from a couple of thumpings we handed out early on, when there was brief optimism. 12 Quote
Mattyblue Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Watching it all unfold on your laptop week after week with that southern social media bloke on comms made me hate it even more… 6 Quote

Mowbray's experimental development football that's why just at a time it called for a cohesive well oiled unit to make the most of what we had. 2 Quote
roverandout Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Bowyer was nearly as bad. Gestede and Rhodes up front. Carney In midfield. His excuse was he was inexperienced. Mowbray had been around for years. At least bowyer was doing his best to make us play off challengers. Mowbray was filling his pension Quote
roversfan99 Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Mowbray was doing his best too. Deary me. 1 Quote

Mattyblue Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Manager under contract does job. If that wasn’t deemed good enough then the owners should’ve sacked him. Not his problem they didn’t. 1 Quote
roversfan99 Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Mowbray derangement syndrome indeed. Bizarre. Quote

roversfan99 Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 He must be an excellent manager if he can match the points total that Tomasson has been praised over when half arsing it. Quote
bazza Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Mowbray did his best for us but, in the end, it wasn't good enough. Glad we have GB and JDT now. Armstrong looks great in that video but what happened to him at Southampton? 4 Quote

My point was that Mowbray wasn't doing anything but trying his best here. He did a decent job, if that was whilst barely trying then he must be an incredible manager when he does try, it was tongue in cheek. People are so twisted against him that they come up with any way they can to try and have a go, no matter how illogical. 10m of that money "spaffed" on strikers was clawed back, and a profit would have been made on the 3 deals if our owners weren't idiots. Upside Down Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Both things can be true you know. He was a shit manager and he also didn't give a fuck. To try and say he gave it his all is truly Mowbray derangement syndrome. 1 Quote

Mattyblue Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 So now he wasn’t even ‘doing his best’, ‘didn’t care’, just daft stuff. If you think he was a crap manager, fine, game of opinions. But the rest of it is just bizarre and feeds into this weird relationship this forum (only this forum by the way, seen as a decent manager everywhere else) has with him, MDS indeed… 4 Quote
roverandout Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) If he was really intent on promotion he would have spent that January money he was offered when we were in a great position. He knew promotion to the premiership would probably have spelt the end for him as with alot of sub par managers, owners usually go for a bigger name to keep us there. He knew staying in the championship he would slowly motor along picking up his paycheck. That's why at Sunderland he achieved in 6 months what he never achieved here. Plat offs. He knew that failure wasn't an option Edited July 3, 2023 by roverandout Quote
Mattyblue Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 The bloke was just an average manager, Occam’s Razor and all that. The rest of it, i.e wanting to lose matches (as that’s how you stay in a league), not trying etc is just brfcs nonsense. 8 Quote
Upside Down Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 He was a pretty shit manager and did a shit job. He got us up out of league one but let's face it, a better manager wouldn't have taken us down in the first place. Like his mate in the office upstairs he did just enough to avoid a complete disaster, once that was done then he could cruise out the rest of the season. Just one of many dollopers to have a cushy number for an extended period under the venkys tenure. Five years here. A complete waste of time. 2 Quote

He knew that failure wasn't an option Those January funds were never verified and almost certainly not true, but he left soon after anyway, so spending would have likely strengthed his position, not weakened it. You must have a really high opinion of his managerial skills if you think that as soon as he starts trying, success follows. If we had gone up under him, his wage would have gone up and likely his deal would have been extended. Quote

Is 2nd in League 1, then 15th, 11th, 15th and 8th, never ever anywhere near the bottom, just avoiding a complete disaster? Quote
