He would have been one of the first, certainly. Franz Carr played before him (whether he played for the first team I'm not sure but he certainly wore the colours) and Howie Gayle was around about the same time. Can't readily think of too many black players that preceded them.

Sad and terrible news.  Lennie after finishing with football became a teacher and was at St Silas Primrary School when my kids were there so I got to know him, he is a fantastic teacher and genuinely very nice man.

Heart-wrenching - I could not imagine what it must feel like to be in his shoes right now. Then the family as well. Life put into specific with one piece of awful news.

I just saw this on a sports website. Jesusssss.....I remember him from when I first started supporting Rovers as a child.

Nice to see he's 'not afraid of dying though'. That's the mindset all should try and get themselves into . . .

I wonder if when the time comes he'll choose to travel and go down the Assisted Dying route . . .

It's shocking how in 2018 courts and governments are blocking this whilst at the same time a lot of them still believe in sky fairies (something from ancient times when people didn't know better).

As a kid I recall Lenny scoring a screamer to salvage a point in an important game. Was it 2-2 v Sunderland when the wheels fell off the 92 promotion wagon??? Anyway he was always one of my favourites at the time as he was, like handbag, a product of the youth setup. So sad ☹️

That's really tough luck. A pal of mine had it, at least he was in his mid sixties at the time. I believe Don Revie had it as well.

Tragic news.  Will always remember his screamer at Turf Moor in the Lancs Cup 1 year.

Lennie and Dave May used to live in digs as youth players on nuttall street and they used to collect me from home (on nuttall street) and take me to Darwen Vale for Centre of Excellence training around 1988-89 .  Great times, learnt a lot.

Always think of Rovers 5 West Ham 4 when I think of Lennie, really looked like he was going to be the new young striker we'd longed for to help out Garner but ended up a Dingle legend instead.

Just read up about Johnrose's MND diagnosis, such a shame. It's a horrible disease, I hope he & his family get all the help & support they need.

Sometimes the game we love gets put into a completely irrelevant perspective.

My favourite memory of him in a Rovers shirt was away at West Brom, 2-2 late in the game, collecting a corner on the edge of the WBA box and dribbling it all the way back to Terry Gennoe!

Lengthy interview on Sky Sports today.

Seems glib and basic to call him “brave” or “inspirational” but this man is facing this horrific disease with as much character and grace as anyone could ever imagine. Eloquent and forthright in raising awareness of the effects of MND on himself and his family, and still he’s doing as much as physically possible to raise money for charity.

Next up a skydive!

Believe he’s still teaching too. Humbling stuff. Go on Lenny.

Think he pinged one of the crossbar from distance, he really smacked it. Think it was during tony parkes ' caretaker period in Ninety one.

Seem to remember he's a Preston lad/fan. Well known local family. Mates with Paul Burke the boxer also from Preston. Sad for him. Bad illness that. I once said to a colleague " I hope you get locked in syndrome " bad that looking back but he told lies about me. I should of just banged him.
