Upside Down Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 He couldn't be bothered to put n a shift for the second half of last season because he was scared of picking up an injury before his lucrative move away. Fuck him. We really needed him to step up and he wasn't interested. Now he's playing at a level far beyond his capabilities and is being found out. He never had a decent first touch, going to play in Spain was a ridiculous decision. If he was to come back and put in a shift every single week then yes, he'd be a good addition. If he's just going to saunter around and do fuck all the he can fuck right off. Only players with world class talent can get away with low effort performances. BBD is nowhere near that category. 7 Quote
Oldgregg86 Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 It’s as simple as he’s better than anything we have and has proven he can score goals. Why would anyone turn him down especially considering the predicament we find ourselves in 1 Quote
metalrover Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Wont want him back here honestly. That purple patch was long gone, dont see it happening again. He will probably run down his lucrative contract in spain, and he is still getting called up for Chile based on his current form. Bet he will wait for a chilean club to sign him on a free again. Quote
Mattyblue Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Doubt there’s much brass on the table in the Chilean league. He’ll be back in the Championship on loan soon enough. Quote
davulsukur Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 He won't come back here, I'm sure there would be more ambitious Championship clubs that would be happy to take him. He might as well join a promotion/play off push, rather than a mid to lower table battle. Quote

Sorry but this is absolute bollocks. Yes he wasn't exactly prolific second half of the season, but anyone questioning his effort presumably didn't watch many games. The whole team crumbled, expecting him to score all the goals as nobody else was probably added to the pressure and subsequent poor return. 5 Quote

I watched most of those games, and I will question his effort. A lot of the time he was hiding on the wing. If ever a player was thinking "I don't want to get injured ", he was it. simongarnerisgod Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 ben is/was a one trick pony, look for the ball over the top,cut in and get a shot off,he can`t do much else but the one thing he can do he`s very good at,other than that, his first touch is awful,he can`t hold the ball up and his awareness is`nt great,he can`t play centrally either, which is his worse trait,no doubt he was going to bomb in spain, bet he`s made a lot of money though,be back in england in january 1 Quote

With a loan contribution no higher than we were willing to make his wage on our last contract offer, and with no loan fee, yes. Which wouldn't happen. But on principle I'd be very loathe to give Villareal any money when they got our £7 million player for free and distracted him from the top of his game at a critical time for us, by courting him for over a year. No, I don't care if anyone here thinks that's petty, Villareal had every right blah blah blah so please nobody bother with that shit. 1 Quote

Draw play away as the game went on so more space opened up there and gave him opportunity to get on the last man with quick balls down that channel. As you said the main trick was run at him cut inside and shoot, worked plenty times, nearly worked plenty times as well which stretched the opposition. Other than that though not a lot else but he was working under Mowbray and Venus after all. JDT used him just the same except wanted him working harder and tracking back more. I don't know whether that mean he knew BBD couldn't do much else or whether he was just trying to utilize his main assets whilst getting a bit more team work out of him. He certainly didn't improve though and was probably a bit lucky he already had that agreement at Ville. Edited November 20, 2023 by tomphil Quote
AllRoverAsia Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 (edited) Ben, who had just come on as a late sub, had a good winning goal turned down by a wrong VAR decision. Spain as bad as England. Ben is not having much luck and the idiot Villarreal manager who uses him mainly as a late sub time waster would have claimed credit for his tactics if the goal had stood. I watched as he allowed players to stroll past him with the ball, not even bumping shoulders with them. He was blatantly not wanting to get involved and he couldn't have made it more obvious. Oddly, in last few games he was getting physically involved again. Maybe Villareal were thinking of pulling out after seeing some of his displays and his agent had a word. 4 Quote
