Genuinely happy for him tbh.

Rovers dropped the ball (when don't we) with BBD's contract/sale.

Not a lot you can do by the time he's decided to leave on a free.

The situation should have been sorted out by Waggott/Mowbray well before that. Ditto the others.

Impossible for anybody at Ewood Park to sort it out if the owners won't accept an offer below their valuation.

We received a bid of 8m in the summer prior to his departure. A lot of money for us. The owners themselves refused to accept it.

Not a lot they could do though.

You are spot on that the BBD contract should have been sort before GB came in. Mowbray and Waggott should have sorted it 2 years before his contracts ended

true but we should be selling players before we leave it when the players have only 12 months left on their contract

What sort of offer would anybody have made 2 years before he left ? He was disappointing for the first 3 years.

Brereton probably didn't want to go having had his eyes on going to Villareal on a pre contract agreement for some time.

So yes, nothing you can do in that instance, you cant force a player to leave. Sorry you're unable to grasp that basic point.

It has also been pointed out many times that you're judging that situation with the benefit of hindsight. He was our top scorer and we missed out on the play offs by one point so it wasn't that bad a decision, one more point somewhere over the course of the season and if we'd have scraped through the play offs everyone would have been saying what a brave and inspired decision it was to keep him.

Extremely fine margins.

Should have had his contract extended years before to preserve his value. Nothing to do with accepting /not accepting offers at a later date.

As far as the Club were concerned he was a £7m asset/development project, but you just let his contract run down because you don't want to upset a group of other players with no resale value?

Good old Uncle Tone.

The player did nothing for the first 3 years of his contract. Nobody wanted his contract extended.

He was decent enough upon the return from Covid and still very young at that point.

He scored 7 goals from 40 appearances in the 2020-21 season. That season Sam Gallagher, who according to you is the worst footballer in the history of the game, scored 8 from 39.

Theres no reason to suggest that he wouldnt have accepted a bigger contract at a club in a better league.

You just cant and wont accept that the owners directly prevented us from potentially getting a big fee because blame has to be diverted elsewhere. It was a foolish decision without hindsight to not take the money. We essentially loaned a player for 8m.

Should have made a new contract post covid comeback cos he looked quality but even so an offer should have been made at that point.

If BBD wanted to leave when Fulham, Sevilla or Nice make the offers when didn't BBD asked to leave?

Just another in a very long line of strange decisions made by the owners.

Different stages of their development, are you actually quibbling about one goal? Gallagher has only scored double figures once in his career.

One of the alleged offers was from Nice wasn't it? Around £4m.

The other two offers were supposedly sub £8m from Leeds and Everton.

"Right Ben we've had two offers from Leeds and Everton. You can go now for £20 k p.w."

Or you can join Villareal in the summer on a free for the same money and a £2m signing on fee.

"I'll stay put thanks"

10m euros. To a team playing in European competition.

Ultimately had we accepted and he said no, different question. But they wouldnt even consider it. Therefore the blame lies solely on the owners in this instance.

Should he have been given a new contract in that season during covid when he went from useless to decent? Quite possibly. Was this the main block and a terminal blow to us receiving a substantial fee? No, thats on the owners which I have no doubt you will not concede.

Missed Ben's directness and willingness to run and track back on the left side. Siggy maybe contributing some goals here and there but Ben is always a handful (his last few seasons). Rovers really need someone who just want to shoot on goal. All that JDT passing around football drives me nuts.

Hope Ben does well!

Who cares if a load of randomers online didn’t want it extending. Extend it anyway he was signed for £7million. Protect your asset.

Plus, that is a red herring, he was obviously improving in 2021, he played pretty much every game, he was called up for Chile, obviously playing a part at Championship level. He should have been signed up then and there, he wouldn’t have been asking for a king’s ransom at that stage either.

I can't understand this attitude - he downed tools for 6 months when his contract in Spain was signed. He's up there with Dann for me.

He didn't. He just went back to being Brereton, which is exactly what continued in Spain.

For the last six months his work-rate and tracking back when he was on the wing was still twice what Moran and Siggurdson are achieving now.
