I feel that’s a strong message sent to Conway

Would have had Rothwell and Big Ben in today

Mowbray is going for a smash and grab here. He would definitely take a point. Really hard working midfield. Keep it 0-0 for 60 minutes, then bring on Armstrong, Rothwell, Brereton. That's his plan

10 soldiers and one artist. So much for attacking football and Tony's philosophy. Basically trying to soak up all pressure like at derby. We will be beaten today and deservedly so. A team void of creativity .All that attacking talent on the bench is criminal. Wigan had a go and looked what Happened. The absolute best case scenario is a nil nil. Joke line up. This is stoke. Admittedly a better team and favourites for the win but that level of respect shown is a disgrace. They aren't city. We are Blackburn rovers . 8 defenders and a goalie. Embarrassing

No wonder we are drawing so many games atm. Does Mowbray know one win is the equivalent of three draws. If he weren't so cautious he was capable saving us from relegation. Whatever our ambitions this attitude will cost us

I was having a conversation with my old man before the Bristol game where I said that in the next four games - Bristol, Villa, Derby and Stoke - I would be happy with a return of four points, as I thought that this was on paper as tough a run of games as we were likely to face all season.

In hindsight we should have got three points at villa, which would make this a moot point, but we're either going to end up with 2, 3 or 5.

2 or 3 would be underwhelming, 5 would have exceeded my expectations.

It is interesting to me that Mowbray (whom I generally rate) seems to be aiming for the single point rather than trying for the three. In the context of a four game run, three points doesn't feel very different to two, so I'd rather we went more attacking. I guess it all adds up over the course of a season and he's taking a longer approach.

What would anyone else have taken over those four games?

I see 8 players in our half trying to not let stoke get through, hoofing long balls to graham who hopefully wins a few balls and manges to find dack, who will be man marked, they can afford to double up on him, who then has to do something magic. All the talk of philosophy and players needing to learn there roles. If they score after ten minutes the whole system and personnel needs re shuffling and changing . Absolutely bs.

I'm starting to really question some of Mowbray's signings this summer (albeit mostly ones I was questioning at the time). Not in terms of the player quality - far too early to decide that - but in terms of where we recruited and what types of players.

We signed as attacking players: Armstrong, Brereton, Palmer, Rothwell.

We signed to play in the defensive mid role: Reed, Rothwell (sometimes), Davenport (admittedly injured). Possibly that Lyons bloke.

Yet we play Smallwood and Evans together basically every game (I think the cup games were the only exceptions?). The attacking players are increasingly struggling for game time - not a single one of the signings in that area is in the starting team today. The only player we have on the pitch who we didn't have last year is Reed, out of position.

I don't understand why we collected all those defensive mids in particular since we wouldn't let Travis go out on loan either. Hopefully it works out today and hopefully it's just a specific approach for a specific game which will rarely if ever be repeated, but it is starting to make me wonder what Mowbray's vision really is. Not that I will care a jot if success comes.
