roversfan99 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Hope we change our corner taker today, Reeds corners have been as bad as anyones in recent memory, no idea what Mowbray has seen to want him to be on corner duty. Quote

Firstly, your wing backs, for whom I question their ability anyway as wing backs (Bennett defending 1 on 1 as we saw and also Bell going forward) but even so, if either are unavailable, there are no alternatives. Nyambe has looked like a fish out of water at centre back and isnt good enough going forward to play as a wing back. And Armstrong was deeper than Brereton, but either way, Dack was almost sidelined. I dont want the central partnership of Dack and Graham in any way being impeded. Mowbrays signings are not above criticism. Looking at the team that played on Wednesday, only 2 of his 7 signings started, one of whom was here last season, and both were out of position. There is certainly some promise amidst his signings but they certainly arent above reproach. 3 at the back is not the kind of formation that you tinker with. Look at Sheffield United, they play it every week and every player knows exactly what their role is and how to play it. Their squad and signings are built around it, they dont use it for half an hour then go to 4 at the back. If he wanted to use it then he should have started off in pre-season using it. If he wants to use it he should stick to it. Totally agree on Chapman. If not him, then definitely a winger. Bennett has played the wing back role under a number of managers like Lambert(Norwich), Cotterill(Bristol City), Mowbray(Blackburn). Bell played the wing back role for Fleetwood before he came here under Rosler. Lenihan, Rodwell(can play centre back), Mulgrew, Williams can all play there and I expect Bauer to sign in January. Dack was marked out of the game by Norwood. Mowbray signings, Rodwell and Brereton will take time to build fitness up and get used to the way we play. Davenport is injured, Armstrong and Reed played, Rothwell and Palmer both on bench. Mowbray wanted Chapman and Pulis blocked it last minute cos he didn't a winger 18 hours ago, FGS5635 said: I think if he really wanted chapman, then chapman would be here. We will never really know on that one He spent nearly 10 million on 2 strikers who are on the bench because graham plays upfront on his own. We have to many centre mids and 2 many numbers 10's and no width. I just think all that plus how he started his time at rovers points to a desire to play 3 at the back. If Im right his signings make sense to me and he just needs to crack on with it. If he doesnt then I think he has assembled a lobsided squad and spent a lot of cash on bench players and square pegs in round holes Pulis wouldn't release him until he signed a winger but never did. Centre midfielders subject we have Smallwood, Reed, Evans, Davenport, possibly Rodwell. How is that too many? 1 hour ago, roversfan99 said: Hope we change our corner taker today, Reeds corners have been as bad as anyones in recent memory, no idea what Mowbray has seen to want him to be on corner duty. CD_93 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) Wow. Surprised to see both Evans and Smallwood dropped. New-look Rovers midfield tonight! Edited October 6, 2018 by CD_93 Quote
Bigdoggsteel Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Ballsy selection by Mowbray. I like the look of it on paper anyway. Quote
Ewood Ace Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) Pleased to see some changes being made and a positive looking line up although Bennett at right back is a worry. Also you also have to wonder why we didn't send Travis out on loan, he's not even on the bench again today what can the young lad possibly be gaining at the moment? AllRoverAsia Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I do like that team and hope we get a good performance. Good connection tonight, watching the Arsenal oldies at the moment, so hope the match comes through OK too Quote

A move fell through, so maybe no one else wanted him. Strange though as he looked decent at times last year, if very, very raw. Quote
frosty Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Decent looking team, glad it's been mixed up a bit. Rothwell stands out every time he comes off the bench so looking forward to seeing him from the start. Quote
islander200 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Nice team, hopefully some good attacking football tonight Quote
Bigdoggsteel Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I'm looking forward to seeing Rodwell. He could be a Rolls Royce in the middle for us if he keeps fit and motivated Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted October 6, 2018 Moderation Lead Posted October 6, 2018 I’ll be honest, that’s a good team selection! Quote

FGS5635 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Wow that selection is out of left field. Fair play Tony, that is a ballsy call and that team looks full of threat Quote
Oldgregg86 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Extremely happy with that team. Well done Tony. The Penny's dropped and the handbrake has been released. I smell blood. Sit back and enjoy what can only be described as a mauling. The macron Reebok University of failure is going to need chalk lines drawing round it. They will be battered. COYB Quote

If TM had bid 10 million for chapman, do you think Pulis would have said no way, I need another winger first? Clearly we wouldnt bid 10mil and Pulis wouldnt let him leave for peanuts, but somewhere in between would have been a figure that worked if TM really really wanted chapman Edited October 6, 2018 by FGS5635 Quote
tomphil Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 That's an attacking line up I think he's been reading the board again, go on Tony lad !!!! If it backfires WE must take the lions share of the blame i'm afraid ...... ? Quote
