simongarnerisgod Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 favourite tugay moment was against arsenal circa 2003, one nil up around the hour mark, deep inside arsenals half, tugay feigned to pass it out wide then arrowed a low shot, right in the corner, past the moaning git goalie lehman,it messed up arsenals title challenge as well, tugay was immense that day and gillespie tormented the arsenal full back van bronkhorst back so badly he was taken off at half time, tugay is deffo in the top five of my rovers legends, nearly as good as the immortal garner himself☺️ 2 Quote

BlackburnEnd75 Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 One of the many things I loved about Tugay is how he clearly loved being here. A genuine one off in many ways, the best player I've ever seen seen at ewood and my favourite player by a country mile. 4 Quote
Leonard Venkhater Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 Apologies, if you have seen this before, but I just came across this by accident. Maybe, not quite my taste, but one for our younger readers? 1 Quote

Ha ha My favourite Tugay memory is probably him having Gerrard on a piece of string for 80 minutes, including that step over and slide rule pass to set up the winner. I find reminiscing about Tugay (and others from our illustrious history) a very sad reminder of what has happened to our club... I often catch my mind drifting at Ewood these days and thinking "I used to sit here watching Tugay, Jansen, McCarthy, Duff...what the fuck happened?" It makes the current dross painful to watch. 7 Quote

tonygreenbank Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 One of my favourite players at Rovers. He always reminds me a little bit of Salgado. Both tremendous players from famous club backgrounds who both gave their all for the club. No big time Charlies. I remember feeling gutted when Tugay was banned for the League Cup Final as it would been his showpiece game. Does anyone know where he is now and what he’s doing? 2 Quote

Last worked as Mancini's assistant at Galatasaray in 2014. This is from his wiki though:- His prowess as a cook is also revered, and in 2010 he was victorious in the Turkish version of the television programme MasterChef. He certainly left me drooling... 4 Quote

Having googled, it looks like we were linked with him a year later, summer 2010, but not before. Random one. Great album though and an excellent day - Ewood packed, top players in the blue and white including the great man's final game, the sun shining and yet another season of top flight football to look forward to. 1 Quote

davulsukur Posted August 15, 2020 Posted August 15, 2020 A genuine Rovers legend. The volleys he rifled in past Fulham and Spurs were unreal hits. Easily one of my favourite ever Rovers. Incredibly sad to know that the chances of seeing a player of that level play for us again, is slim to none. 2 Quote

Popular Post GHR Posted August 16, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) This will have been said by many others I'm sure, but I want to join in the deserved praise. As someone too young to remember the 1990s I have to make do with the early and mid 2000s for my 'good old days', and this bloke was the centrepiece. He was in his 30s when he joined, smoked like there's no tomorrow and scarcely warmed up; but he could do whatever he wanted with the ball and always gave his everything. The goals, accolades, quotes and World Cup exploits speak for themselves, but my fondest memory however is the genuine love you could tell he had for us, and we showed back. In a sport nowadays where players are judged by spreadsheets of data and their rating on Fifa, I fear the Tugays of this world are a dying breed, for absolute shame. Thank god then that Souness took the punt on it working out for him at Rovers when it hadn't at Rangers. In doing so, he gave us Rovers' greatest foreign player ever, my favourite player ever, and the club arguably one of it's five greatest players in history. If, somehow, Tugay ends up dropping back over here for whatever reason, I really hope he does 'An evening with...' like MGP did and Samba was to. The bloke would sell out Kings George's Hall! Our Turkish Delight. Edited August 16, 2020 by GHR 11 Quote

Don't give up hope. In the late 80s/early 90s we saw our best player, Simon Barker, sold to first division QPR (ffs) in order to balance the books. Financially Rovers were knackered and then Jack came along and waved a magic wand. We never know what the future holds for us so don't give up hope. Quote

Was talking to a WH fan on another forum and I posted the clip of Noble saying that Tugay was the best he'd played against. His response which I thought was quite funny was: "I knew his (Noble's) legs had gone, I didn't think his head had though" 1 Quote

Different games mate. In the video Noble is talking about an FA Cup game, early in his career (think Noble made his debut 04/05). The 7-1 was in our first season back, Autumn 2001. Quote
Miller11 Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 One Tugay goal that never gets the credit it deserves was the one against Basel in the UEFA cup at Ewood when we wore red at home. The touch, the turn, the way he just lifts it in the top corner from 25 yards. Ridiculous goal. Doesn’t get the hype that some in the premier league do, but probably his best. 1 Quote

Can remember shin pads off, boots off, waving to the fans and shaking hands with the officials. And all after walking over to the Riverside before the board went up to make the journey as long as possible. I credit Tugay with the rule change for subs going off the field at the nearest point. ☺️ 3 Quote
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 He will be still talked about for many decades to come by those of us blessed enough to have seen him in the Blue n White. The rapport he had with the fans is something sadly lacking now. You don't know what you've had till it's gone. 1 Quote

From an old post on here (can't remember who I nicked it off for Facebook): Step 1 - Glance over to bench to get inkling he was coming off Step 2 - Decide to try something outrageous or overly skillful as a parting gift Step 3 - Drift over to the Riverside Stand Step 4 - Look at the fans in the Riverside as the board went up. Step 5 - Ignore the board Step 6 - Wait for prompting or the stadium announcer to call out ''Number 5......Tugay'' Step 7 - Look suprised Step 8 - Remove shinpads Step 9 - Loosen Socks Step 10 - Tuck shinpads into shorts Step 11 - Applaud the Riverside Stand Step 12 - Start the walk off Step 13 - Applaud the Darwen End Step 14 - Wait for the referee to come and tell you to hurry up Step 15 - Shake hands with the referee, tell him what a wonderful job he's doing/done Step 16 - Brisk walk or lazy jog for ten paces Step 17 - Applaud the Blackburn End Step 18 - Wait for ''Tugay you are my Turkish delight'' Step 19 - Kiss or pat badge on shirt Step 20 - Shake hands with the left back/left winger Step 21 - Shake hands with opposition right back as they come to tell you to hurry up Step 22 - Applaud Jack Walker Stand Step 23 - Final curtain call to all four sides Step 24 - Affectionate handshake and/or hug with player coming on Step 25 - Shake hands with manager Step 26 - Shake hands with all the coaching staff Step 27 - High Fives to fans sitting near the Rovers dugout Step 28 - High Five to fellow subs Step 29 - Final Wave Step 30 - Finally Sit Down 22 Quote
