And that would seem to be an early age to be written off as "not good enough".

Its not that aspect so much, he could turn out to be a real player for all I know. And no blame attaches to him. But it was a ridiculous buy when it took up so much of the transfer budget and there were other areas where we needed strengthening. We did need a striker its true but not this one now. We needed someone who could feature regularly in the first team as a striker. And he'd have been cheaper.

Even if this move comes off in the end, I still feel it was a terrible decision  and a huge gamble we shouldn't have made.

its a bit like that bloke a few years ago  borrowing enough to buy a house and putting it on RED at the casino to pay it off. Lunacy.

(He won by the way!)

I don't see any footballing qualities to suggest he is ever going to be good enough. He can't head the ball, he doesn't have much pace or any skill to beat a man, he's a poor finisher and he's lazy. What have you seen in him to suggest that he is ever going to be good enough?

I've been chilling out away from football and just wondered:

Is there a decent chance of Hanley returning?

Which strikers are genuinely linked?

Any news on a left back?

And just my opinion, the freebies will start moving this week as they tend to be contracted until the end of June.

We need another Lenihan or another Graham before we need another Bennett.

Is this what is in Mowbray’s head? (white = sub, orange = alternative)

Personally I’d say we are still well short at cb and rb. He surely can’t drop Armstrong to accommodate Downing on the left...?

I saw something on Facebook saying that we are talking to Thomas Kuczack but I can't find the link now.

Tomasz Kuszczak is 37 but he is just the kind of competition that Raya needs. Someone hugely experienced who, providing he was fit, would be a better one year option than Leutwiler.

Admittedly, you have an advantage on me having seen more of him. I saw him come on against Norwich and he looked bereft of confidence and I felt that the manager was at fault for that. I saw the West Brom game where he came on and gave a very interesting cameo. There was a point where he got the ball midway inside the West Brom half facing the Riverside. A quick change of feet and a burst of pace took him away from two Baggies players and he played a nice ball out to the right wing. He was generally much better in that game and I felt that he might have something but he needed managing.

His goal against Bolton would suggest that he can finish, his lack of confidence might explain him looking lazy and I'm surprised that you think he has no pace.

Did you see Bennett playing RB against Brentford? Or every time he played there? Square pegs in round holes Don't work.

At Brentford, Bennett had his arse ripped numerous times. Completely pathetic performance as are Mowbray's comments of Bennett as a classic utility player. He is shit everywhere.

Amen to that. Did he get selected the game after? Nyambe is 1000 x the player Bennett is. With potential to play the Premier League if he worked on soft skills.

I hope Mowbray scouts this game, cheaper than a caravan around Europe:

To be fair, he was specifically referring to Bennett being utilised basically anywhere he can be crow-barred in. I for one agree that it didnt work. Other things he has done have worked, obviously.

In all honesty, that's the truth. If he were going to be a player who could justify the fee one day, he would be at least showing SOMETHING.

In three years some on here will be saying 'don't write him off he's only 23'.

Swansea away, Brentford away, Sheffield United home and away and the list goes on. Bennett is an a atrocious full back (and not much better elsewhere) but Mowbray likes him, so he continuously get's shoehorned into the side despite not being good enough. Nyambe on the other hand made an error against Birmingham, was publicly criticised by the manager and dropped to the bench and sometimes from the squad entirely until injuries meant he got a recall to the staring 11.

Rothwell to Dack to Brereton...

Hopefully a link-up we can see more of going forward. Plus that Butterworth run from the halfway line which should have grabbed Brereton another.

Total honesty from Square Peg Mowbray:

"People have learnt over the last few years that I like players with the ability to play in different positions - Elliott Bennett being a classic case at the moment.

I like managers with a high success rate but I haven't got one!
