Most of the champ centre backs are better than those two, doesn’t mean we should look to sign them all. Has to be the right fit for the club

I am not saying he should be signed, but he should not be dismissed out of hand.

A mistake waiting to happen in every match.

Cost Derby in play off final two or three seasons ago.

Seen him 'live' on numerous occasions.  To me, has a strange body language and I think he's a sandwich short of a picnic.

I love his crazy head.

If he was as bad as you claim, how has he kept his place there for so long? Even after they splashed vast quantities of cash

So puzzled by this. If we hadn't spent 7m on Brereton i would be more than happy for this to happen. The fact we cannot afford this bloke makes it obvious not to get him. We need to try & get the best out of Brereton. We cannot afford to loose Dack or Lenihan over SG. We need a bloody defender!

Plenty going on in your post.

Who said we can't afford him? Who has mentioned anything about selling Dack this window, let alone selling Lenihan?

What is puzzling about us wanting to sign a striker?

'We've pooled our time and resources all summer into getting Sam Gallagher here but his wages where more than we can afford so we couldn't get it over the line. We have Dominic Samuel coming back and Ben Brereton should play a bigger part next season so i'm comfortable moving forwards with what we have..'

Do you know what was surprising from the LT article? The fact they say Gallagher is on more than our top earner. That's insane.

How excited on a scale of Stuart to 10?

;)

With no player yet signed, I’m going to have to say, 1. Don’t want to set my expectations unrealistically high or I might be disappointed. If I aim low it’s more likely that the return of Jason Lowe will be “a decent signing of Championship experience”.

Ya, a bad Championship experience....for us!

He is surely due a stint in League 1 at this point

Telegraph doing their thing with that Gallagher article. Rumour appears over the weekend online about us potentially being interested in him and Southampton being prepared to sell. A £5 million figure fee quoted. Tuesday morning comes around and it's in the Telegraph as a potential piece of business but with the usual caveat of 'wages might be a problem'.

The sell to buy thing with Dack I have grave misgivings about as a policy. Once again there's a difference between allowing him to move should a higher club come in with good money and there's setting out on our summer with a desire/intention to sell him as a way to generate some cash.

Option 1 is what Norwich did with Murphy and Maddison - step ups for them and good reinvestment. Option 2 is what we did with Jordan Rhodes and Tom Cairney - step sideways and no reinvestment.

He actually got his big Southampton deal on the back of his time here.  I like him as a player but he'd have to be coming here on far less than he's on otherwise i'd leave it alone right now.

I've a feeling it'll drag.

Being linked to Brentford goalie Bentley. It seems to be originally a Nixon rumour though, so pinch of salt. Don't envision us paying the 4 million mentioned in the article, so maybe more like a pinch of bullshit. Nixon can't seem to make his mind up on whether we can spunk 4 mill on a goalie or need to sell!

This quote from the article is enough to send my BS radar into absolute overdrive "Specialist transfer journalist Alan Nixon"

That's good though, surely. Means we've got wages relatively under control.

Mowbray has made a couple of comments about the need to sell someone like Dack to reinvest in the squad.

I think Dack will do whatever his Mrs tells him to do. I can't imagine him not moving down south this summer.

You could look at it that way, but it also means Southampton can pay lads that don't even make their bench more than we pay players in our starting 11

Of course they can though, they've got PL money. Sad indictment of football though perhaps.

Mentioned Bentley a couple of weeks ago along with Yoann Barbet. Could be why Raya being linked with Brentford,  some sort of swap deal? How much do you think Raya is worth?

Good question, 3 million?

If that's the case, it makes sense if we could get Bentley for around the same. Definitely an improvement on Raya imo.

Raya has potential for sure and cat like reflexes, I do have big concerns about him though. Some of the goals he conceded last season were atrocious.
