Summer Transfer Window 2019

Interesting comments from Travis in the LT yesterday: "My main job though is to keep the ball circulating, look for Dacky (Bradley Dack), Arma (Adam Armstrong) and (Joe) Rothwell because they are the dangermen.”

I think it was Evans or Smallwood who said something similar last season i.e. Mowbray likes his central midfielders to sit deep and 'recycle possession'. Reed isn't that type of player, he's a bit more forward thinking, which is probably why he didn't play more in the middle. Watching Buckley yesterday I don't see him as a sitting midfielder either, he looked more the Reed type.

Interesting then to see who Mowbray signs for CM this summer (Talk in the LT today that he still wants a CM)

Interesting to see who leaves too. As it stands we've got Evans/Smallwood/Travis/Buckley/Rodwell competing for two CM (really DM) positions. I think one and possibly 2 of Rodwell/Evans/Smallwood will leave if Mowbray can get rid.

Well-deserved but he needs to push on again next season. I think he's stalled a bit in the last 6 months. He was excellent at the start of the season.

Surprised it's only 2 years at his age if the club rate him.

That's why Reed has 3 goals and 5 assist this season whereas the other 3 combined whereas Travis, Smallwood and Evans have 0 goals and 1 assist between them. You only really need one man doing the job of sitting and recycling the ball at this level especially with 4 defenders behind him

Sorry, not sure what your point is?

If we are to push for promotion we need more goals from Midfield. This season we have been too reliant on the goals from Graham, Dack and Mulgrew (who shouldn't be starting next season). You look at the likes of Norwich, Leeds, Villa and Sheffield United or even say a Preston their midfield either score or create plenty of goals. Whereas our current midfield options for next season have 1 assist and 0 goals between them.

I agree. I think where Reed is concerned he got all (?) those assists/goals from playing out wide. I think my point was if he's played in the middle (like Smallwood etc) he wouldn't look as good because he wouldn't get forward as much.

Id hope we would keep Rodwell as a CM next season. Sounds like hes done well in every game hes played there. Evans and Smallwood can both go.

Not sure TM rates Rodwell that much though.

He gave him a very enthusiastic round of applause and a handshake when he subbed him late in the game. Mogga was very keen for Rodwell to see his performance was appreciated. Read into that what you will!

He'll have had most of those assists from set pieces. Wigan & Preston away come to mind, but pretty certain there were others

Sharpes article in the LT today says it looks more unlikely than likely that Rodwell will stay here. Not sure what he is basing that on, but there must be something as it's the most out on a limb call I ever remember him making. Usually he doesn't say one way or another on anything transfer or contract related

That's not true. He often plays down transfer links with players. He obviously has contact with someone at the club who will give him the nod one way or another. He'll talk to the players too. I just think with Rodwell he's never been 1st choice in any position so if he wants to play he'll have to move on.

'However, Rovers will still look to recruit in central defence and central midfield this summer which could knock him (Rodwell) further down the pecking order'

I think that ^ was the key part of Sharpe's article.

Scored at West Brom playing central midfield and put in the best individual performance that I have seen from a Rovers player for many years. Also his goal at West Brom was a fantastic strike from outside the box, how often do you see a Smallwood, Evans or Travis take a shot from outside the box?

Smallwood scored a beauty at Fleetwood.

He's off to Europe for a couple of days to 'eye up talent'. Amsterdam it is then!

Hoping for the nod to get multi-million £ signings in the summer.

Look at Norwich and Huddersfield in recent years in their promotion seasons from this league, there’s talent in the foreign leagues and you don’t always have too pay much too get it..

Crab-like players like Evans, Smallwood and Lowe will get a goal every three seasons or so and they're either deflected ala Evans, total once in a lifetime flukes ala Lowe, or in the case of Smallwood a sweet strike when he actually ventured forward for once.

Look at how Travis plays, seen him get of more shots in the last two weeks than Evans has all season - a couple were from inside the box too (Evans would be getting panic attacks).

The best TM comments I've read in ages. Made me quite upbeat apart from an apparent complete lack of knowledge of what the Summer budget will be!

I am guessing he is in Netherlands watching some games :

AZ Alkmaar - Heracles. Adrian Dalmau, spanish 25 year old striker with 16 goals for Heracles.

SC Herenveen - VVV-Venlo. Michel Vlap, 21 year old attacking midfielder. 14 goals and 4 assist for Herenveen, he is also 191cm high!

PEC Zwolle - Groningen. Julian Chabot, 21 year old talented CB from Germany.

How many games has he been unavailable for due to injury ?

Wonder if Sam Hart gets any first team opportunities next season. Any progress reports on him. He was truly awful the few games I saw him

Player of the month. Seen him vs Barnsley on Sky and he looked ok...

Getting on better than Wharton it seems...

Would imagine TM to make a decision in preseason

Two goals for Vlap tonight, if Tony is there!

So 16 goals from midfield at 21? Doesn't sound particularly available.

Nah he looks mint on YouTube too.

But there’s nothing like unsubstantiated names being bandied around to really signal that silly season has begun!

My favourite time of year...

I heard Mowbray was in Luxembourg to watch the winger Marcosè Maddesön
