Football is a game of opinions and I respect the right of all on this MB to express theirs even though I might not necessarily agree with those opinions. No offence but it’s sounds as though you wouldn’t be happy if Pep was our manager ? everything I read from you is negative Edited July 6, 2019 by OssyLad
BlackburnEnd75 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Brentford are reported to be close to signing Pontus Jansson for £5.5million. If Brentford can do this then why can’t we ?

Suppose we sign a (universally agreed) dreadful keeper (in the next few weeks) as our Raya replacement... what say you then? 1
1864roverite Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Let’s be honest Raya is not the be all and end all of keeping he is and was a liability stop making him out to be a world beater he was no better than the fabled John butcher 1

If Brentford can do this then why can’t we ? It’s a good question. Is it lack of money, or lack of ambition? It’s hard to defend Venkys over Mowbray. But we are in the midst of a mini crisis and Mowbray himself says that he is telling Venkys not to spend. Tbh, I’ve never heard of this Pontus person but it sounds like neither have our scouts. We need a signing that all of our fans can get behind but I feel like this has been the case for about three years. 1

We don’t really have five weeks though. This needs to happen quickly. Losing our number one (for two years) is quite a big deal. This needs nipping in the bud.

Why else would we let him go?
Reedy You're A Star Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Wouldn't say it's a mini crisis yet. there's still plenty of time to get in a GK, CB, LB and ST. Whether we get them and if they're the required quality will determine if it's a crisis. I voted to give TM this Summer to fix things in the TM In or Out thread. Still plenty of Summer left yet.

Remember when Leeds let Villa score a goal in their match towards the end of last season? Jansson was the only player who said "fuck this" and actively tried to stop Villa scoring whilst the rest of his team mates looked on in bemusement. 4
Neal Posted July 6, 2019 Author Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) A lot of negativety going on and I can understand why... Although, if we do sign Adam, I'm pretty sure he will turn out to be a better signing than Johnson, has all the same qualities as him but more quality on the ball. I'd ship out Evans and Smallwood and sooner have these two, it would be a massive upgrade in quality and most importantly, two absolute bastards who hate to get beat. The sort of experienced leaders you need to get out of this league. I know people want fanfare signings but I think people need to step back and consider what we really need. Yes we need a centre half and a decent keeper, I think that will happen. We already have a good crop of great young talent and also players like Dacky, Rothwell and Lennihan in their mid twenties but I believe that we need not just experience but quality experience. You might feel down about us signing out of contract older players but I'm pretty confident people will be quite pleased wth these addtitions at the end of the season. Edited July 6, 2019 by Neal 2

Suppose we sign a (universally agreed) dreadful keeper (in the next few weeks) as our Raya replacement... what say you then? I think this is a classic case of Mowbray taking flak for something beyond his control. Steve Kean and his cronies dismantled a defence containing Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Jones, Salgado et al. It’s never been invested in properly since. One defensive signing since has cost a seven figure sum. Only about 4 or 5 players in the shit defence merry go round that has existed since then have involved a fee at all, all of which were nominal. There is a pattern absolutely screaming out. Venky’s wont sanction spending on defenders. I asked specifically about this at the consultation meeting with a lot of facts, figures, quotes etc. Mowbray and Waggott vehemently denied this is the case and guaranteed and promised defenders would be coming in. Defenders who were ready to improve the starting 11. They’d been back from India all of 5 minutes before the backtracking started, and he was talking about playing Downing at left back. Nonsense quotes like “we like exciting, young, attacking players”, that knob head Shebby Singh claiming Pedersen (and Steven Gerrard) had missed their true callings as full backs, Nzonzi, Bennett, Rodwell amongst others all used out of position, picking up broken down never has been a like Greer and Brown, the fact that the first players frozen out and fucked over under their reign of terror were Salgado, Samba, Givet and Ryan “in traction” Nelsen (as well as Andrews and Roberts who were the two who got most stick from the supporters)... They are just as shit with keepers too. Replacing Paul Robinson with Jason Steele was completely idiotic. We really did luck out with Raya coming through when he did. He’s gone now, and for all the talk of how easily replaceable he is, I bet we get a downgrade. Anyone who thinks Mowbray, or anyone who proceeded him since Kean, has free reign over transfers I think is absolutely kidding themselves. I reckon the extent of the meddling would horrify people of it all came out. Edited July 6, 2019 by Miller11 Correction 11
