Bigdoggsteel Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 So the club have released a statement about racist abuse received by Williams on social media. Fan banned and police involved. Does anyone know if the abuse was related to him being black or being Irish? Quote

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted March 14, 2019 Moderation Lead Posted March 14, 2019 Not seen it tbh, so I've no idea. Whatever anyone thinks of his abilities as a footballer, racist abuse is completely unacceptable. 8 Quote

If it's because he's Irish that's ok ? but any other abuse isn't welcome Quote
arbitro Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 It's cowardly to post things like that on social media. I don't understand why people like that aren't before a judge. Quote

RV Blue Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 As much as I dislike Williams, this scumbag should be banned for life. Quote
Butty Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Whatever you think about his limitations as a player this is utterly shameful, how embarrassing for the club and us as fans that something like this has happened.. I hope those at Hillsbrough tomorrow give him the biggest cheer of the day and sing his name. Disgusting behaviour I hope the fan is banned for life 7 Quote
davulsukur Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Unbelievable that this stuff still happens in this day and age. Why do people never learn? Quote

Disgusting behaviour I hope the fan is banned for life All players and managers are in the public eye and therefore will receive criticism (and praise) but that should be limited to how they played, not what colour they are or what their faith is. I once read in a national paper that a manager said I was a disgrace. I took umbrage to this and rang him to tell him that describing me as a disgrace reflects on me, my family and the responsible position I held at the time. He apologised and agreed that in future he would criticise decisions and not the individual. Quote

Vinjay Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) Manager calling you a disgrace. It's not exactly uncommon in football for managers to abuse referees is it? Edited March 15, 2019 by Vinjay17 Quote

To my knowledge it only happened once to me. Referees are often publicly criticised but it's not that often it is of a personal nature. Quote
