arbitro Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Bretton hasn't improved his upper body strength during the summer. Quote
CD_93 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 So Barrow have scored twice. Wonder if the second half team can do anything. Quote
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Same system as last year - Or have we unleashed tikki takka hell on Barrow? 1 Quote

Parsonblue Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Typical early pre-season stuff. Best player on the pitch by a country mile was Charlie Adam - wonderful range of passing and superb vision. 1 Quote

I guess he has more to gain from putting a shift in though. Quote
Ewood Ace Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 There is no doubting Adam's quality the doubts are whether at 33 and after playing little in 2 years does he still have the legs for a season in the Championship. Quote

Adam was classy, always had time on the ball and his long diagonals over and inside the full backs were excellent. Clearly it's too early to make a decision on him but he is something we haven't had for a long time. Quote
DeeCee Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Ffs against Barrow! Set your sights a bit higher? 3 Quote

joey_big_nose Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Charlie Adam to me is very reminiscent of Murphy. I sincerely doubt he will be coming to the Championship keen to put a shift in. 1 Quote
matt83 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 The likes of Murphy have probably hardened my cynical outlook but I have the same concerns about Adam. Put in a shift vs a bunch of plasterers and plumbers get offered a final contract and put your feet up. With our preseason schedule Rangers looks like the only competitive fixture and with them playing in Europe 3 days earlier could well be their reserves as well. In which case will be hard to judge trialists playing the calibre of opposition lined up. Quote

As we aren't playing anybody of note how do you propose we judge players? FFS. Assuming we haven’t had scouts looking at players, which as we all know is completely pointless, then you’d have to look at things like experience, fitness, potential (short and long term), most recent season, circumstances, and the contract terms they would require. You do not judge them on performances against teams two divisions lower and more. Even on a pay as you play he would be taking up a squad place so he needs to be able to deliver success on the pitch in the second tier of English football this season. Rodwell had some credibility because of his age and potential, while Adam would be an emotional signing rather than a sensible one. A huge gamble. Quote
Mattyblue Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 No scouts involved with Adam. He rang Mowbray himself... Quote
philipl Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 We don't need Adam to put a shift in but is ideal off the bench when we need something different. I am heartened by the reports, Barrow or not. The only Rovers player mentioned on the radio for the first 20 minutes was Brereton. Then we got Charlie Dack so doesn't necessarilly signal anything apart from him causing the og. 1 Quote
