I wish I could make a career as a footballer in Oz or the States. Surely you don't have to be that good?

In the States, you do have to be decent, cant speak for Oz, but in the States you will be surprised, even in the lower grades at least good semi pro level!!

I think it would be fair to say that you probably need to be as good as John Curtis to play in the Australian A League...

So if your cv is anywhere near as good as his then why not give it a go!!

John Curtis, playing at right back for Gold Coast United in the A League, scored a left foot screamer from the edge of the box on Weds night.

I remember e-mailing John Curtis many years ago when he was with us. Told him he was brilliant and I couldn't understand how Gary Neville was ahead of him for England. Seemed like a very amicable chap from his reply, but his sarcasm detector must be buggered.

Absolute legend. Probably one of the last specialist full backs who concentrated 100 % on his defensive game, and did it very well too.

Really? I always thought he was one of the better people in football, he's certainly a lot brighter than most of them.

I wouldn't question his intelect. I wasn't particularly keen on his attitude to the club or a comment about the fans after he suffered an admittedly nasty ankle injury.

Over-used word'legend' my arse. Journeyman full back - just about average.

Bill Eckersley,Keith Newton,graeme le Saux legends. Bob Crompton -titan/pivotal legend.

Proportionality.

Tongue firmly in cheek and all that... I agree that he's not in the same league as any of the names you mentioned, but he's a personal favorite of mine due to his playing style.

I was chuffed to bits when we signed John Curtis. No-nonsense full-back who did a fine job, before Lucas Neill eased him out the side.
