Just another stop gap by the sounds of it but they'd very little choice i'd wager. What is it all secured against i wonder. Its got to have been secured against the stadium and the hotel. They won't have a cat in hells chance of repaying the £40m in 4 years. Someone called Nick Luckcock is involved and it may be £20m lent by him and £20m lent by Sharon Brittan. There is a third charge, but that might be the hotel looking at it. 1 Quote

That's right and in the meantime, if the current owners are like the last one, they and their families will have a nice living out of it, make 4% on the funds the have lent to the club and then sell it on or put it into admin again, knowing their loans are secured and they are therefore preferred creditors. Rinse and repeat. 2 Quote

It goes without saying that the main priority was keeping the club going. The fans wanted a competitive club and now they will want things like every other fan. To judge the new manager, to choose which players they would play, to berate the striker who missed an open net, to cheer the goal to get them their first win. The "should have been more ambitious line" is you twisting what has been aaid though. I just merely commented that the players they have signed in the main are of poor quality, OGrady and Bunney in particular, in terms of battling for survival, baring in mind the deduction means they will need play off standard form, or close to. Obviously they are left with the last dances at the disco, with nothing to build on and no money. I think as a Bolton fan, obviously Id be relieved and over the moon to have a club to watch. But id also be gutted if I was a fan and they went down. I can be bothered picking through and quoting things, but if you are a Bolton fan 15 points from safety I imagine you accept you are down. To 'hope and strive' to stop up from this situation is unrealistic. You say the people they have signed will not keep the up, when it was impossible that they could sign anyone that would keep them up. 1 Quote
Backroom DE. Posted September 3, 2019 Backroom Posted September 3, 2019 (edited) Judging by the last few seasons the average amount of points to stay up in League One is around 50. Bolton are currently on -11 and, assuming they aren't going to be deducted anymore points, would need 61 points from their remaining 40 games to get to that target. Realistically they are going to have to probably win between 35-40% of their remaining games and have a lot of draws to have a hope of staying up. It's not impossible but I'd class it as extremely unlikely that they'll be able to even come close to getting the points needed to survive. Edit: Just realised without Bury around it's actually only 39 games left, not 40. Edited September 3, 2019 by DE. 1 Quote

Yes its far less than 50% likely, but there is a chance and we are just into September but its not impossible, 3 teams go down, theyd need probably about 60 points, top 10 form so its difficult but why keep the hope alive by having a club if you give up on a season in September? I never said they could sign players that could keep them up and saying that the ones they have signed probably wont doesnt automatically imply that. Quote

Mattyblue Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Last season’s holders are going to have their STs auto renewed unless they tell the club otherwise (DIrect Debit payers). Quite a lot of clubs do similar. Quote

Our fanbase won’t increase while Waggott is in charge of policy unless somehow we fluke it to the PL. Even then I wouldn’t be at all surprised if ST prices went up significantly to reflect the “quality of the opposition”. Has there been a single positive move made by Waggott towards fans? I consider the price freeze neutral and necessary. Quote

Maybe some clubs don’t use sentiment as a justification for playing certain players? Very difficult situation at Bolton now. Maybe they need to accept relegation with a bit of dignity and reward some players for keeping the club from folding last month but I expect Hill will want to try to stay up. Football is a ruthless business - except at Rovers. 2 Quote
roversfan99 Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 I still perhaps naively think it would be counter productive to wave the white flag at this very early stage of the season. Their biggest asset at Bolton at the moment is that they are somewhat riding the crest of a wave in terms of their club still existing, everyone applauding a 6-1 hammering at Rotherham for a start. If they take the attitude now that theyve no chance and its time to look towards League 2 (especially baring in mind their senior players are on short term deals) then I would predict that much of that goodwill and buzz would fizzle away in the next 8 months and it would be pretty desolate ahead of League 2. If they go for an unlikely survival, get some good results but fall short, they could still have that buzz. Of course, one of Hill's main tasks will be balancing the messages of feeding the fans hope to spark a real atmosphere, without giving them too much to expect what I admit is pretty improbable. It would need play off form, and that first win would need to come soon, with 2 home games potentially giving them a chance. They would need that first win to be a protagonist in terms of momentum, but with healthy season ticket sales, and a seige mentality, theyve got some added assets in terms of backing. They do have some players with calibre. Darryl Murphy didnt play yesterday, is pretty old and possibly rusty, but hes a proven Championship striker, you'd think he can score plenty at that level. Liam Bridcutt again might have some ring rust to shake off but hes a competent Championship midfielder, you'd think him and Murphy or Weir could strike up a very good partnership at that level. They've got a couple of experienced heads at the back in Wright and Hobbs, and Remi Matthews in goal. And they have a sprinkling of flair, Verlinden broke through in the Stoke side last season, Politic is a decent young player and theyve been heavily linked with Graham Dorrans. I am well aware that it is improbable but I dont think its impossible. Quote
Backroom DE. Posted September 15, 2019 Backroom Posted September 15, 2019 I would say their chances of survival are so remote it isn't really worth debating. The team they have now isn't going to hit playoff form. They'll do well to surpass relegation form. They should however continue with the great escape mentality. It's not like they can really do anything else. Quote

Backroom DE. Posted September 21, 2019 Backroom Posted September 21, 2019 Funny how Bolton sign a few frees and now they're suddenly competitive in L1. Try that in the PL or Championship and you're bombing out without a prayer. The quality drop from L1 downwards is genuinely massive now. Quote
Backroom DE. Posted November 21, 2019 Backroom Posted November 21, 2019 A five point suspended points deduction for Bolton for both the Brentford and Doncaster matches. Quote
