And spend less on wages and fees over a period of time. He did the same thing when Strachan spend millions after millions and didnt get promote. Then he cut the budget under Mowbray. Their owner appointed Woodgate and I was told he was getting the job before the end of last season. Yeah and you said Woodgate should be given time. Look how that's worked out. Who'd have thought a guy who smashed a glass over his head wouldn't be a rousing success. 1 Quote

chaddyrovers Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Forest vs Fulham should be a good game. Plus Luton and Barnsley play each other at 6pm tonight Quote

If you are British, over the age of 50, been around numerous clubs and focus on short term results then no good. Don't disagree with your point as a whole but I don't think we're the best example of why the above viewpoint is wrong as Mowbray tends to back it up. Quote
Oldgregg86 Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Harry arter has just scored a lovely goal for Fulham. Turned over and zaha has hit an even better one for palace. Both worth a watch particularly zahas . Let’s hope Armstrong can pull one out the bag for us tonight 6 Quote
Blue blood Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 I think the big thing these days is that the "so that we win games" part is missing or cut off from the criteria bandied about for a new manager or a club strategy. For example we have a foreign scouting network in order to unearth the best affordable.talent so that we win the most games. Or like Swansea used to do before new owners - we have a passing philosophy and select managers in line with this model, which enables maximum continuity when people move on so that we win the most games. Whether it is a recruitment policy, a style of football, a backroom structure - the point of it all is to give you a competitive edge to help you win games. It's a means to an end, not the end in itself. When this is forgotten it all becomes a load.of guff. Quote
philipl Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Brentford and Barnsley equalisers in the last minute Quote
Darrenbot Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 Brentford turned it round and now leading 2-1,i think they are going to pip West Brom to the 2nd spot. Quote

oldjamfan1 Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Looks like we might have climbed a place today without kicking a ball, great result for Boro at Millwall, that! Quote

roversfan99 Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Very impressive win for Boro this afternoon. They were brilliantly organised and had a threat on the counter attack. Their goalkeeper was very impressive, perhaps goes back to what we was discussing about having other primary objectives, fancy football and bringing in youngsters etc. Woodgate stuck with Pears a little too long perhaps despite them having a competent 1m goalkeeper in reserve. You play the team that gets you results. Doesnt really affect us as our miniscule play off hopes would need 4 wins to even have a chance so we would finish above Millwall if we got that anyway because we are playing them. Putting 2 and 2 together but with our hole at left back I wouldnt be overly surprised to see Mowbray move for George Friend on a free. Hope not as hes close to his 33rd birthday and has received plenty of criticism for his poor performances but a Boro boy on a free may prove too difficult to resist. 1 Quote

Gordon Gekko Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Cardiff away to Fulham Friday night and Derby at home to Brentford early Saturday. If both those results go our way and we pull a rabbit out of the hat against West Brom on Saturday... surely not!!?? Swansea sniffing about as well though! 3 Quote
philipl Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Probably now going to need a run of 4 wins after this week's fixtures for any club to secure 6th. All the clubs have singularly unpleasant run-ins. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted July 8, 2020 Backroom Posted July 8, 2020 Can see Wigan doing enough to stay up even with the 12 points! Good news for us in the race to avoid relegation next season potentially Quote
