But our poor attendances are to some significant extent, a direct result of the current owners and their operation of the club. So it becomes self fulfilling.

Ok,some would be back, but honestly, what so you reckon the attendance would be at this level with a beloved owner and us in the same position? You obviously know more than me about how many are genuinely staying away because of the owners. I suspect we still would be nowhere near 20,000

A host of exciting Championship results today (the most exciting being ours but then I'm biased) but a lot of other interesting ones too.

Brentford bounced back with a 7-0 win suggesting they're a pretty decent team, and that Luton really aren't. Along with another loss for Wigan, I think both clubs are looking in serious trouble. Barnsley, my third pick for the drop managed a second win of the season, which is a tad surprising.

Boro lost again too, and heavily to Leeds, making me wonder how long Woodgate will last there, and a heavy loss for Huddersfield suggests there is still work to be done there as well. Cardiff seem to be taking to Harris as a manager, albeit early days, with another win, As for our win, an 11 point gap with relegation suggests that it will take a heck of a bad run on a par with last seasons for us to get anywhere near relegation. Funny the difference a few weeks can make!

After the Brentford 7-0 Luton score, I can't work out if that makes me more impressed that we beat Brentford or more disappointed we donated 3 points to Luton.

When you consider charlton are in free fall, those 6 points plus getting at least a point off pne (a minimum normally after being 2 up) and wed be comfortably in play offs.

I guess it's all ifs and buts and it always seems to be with us and the playoffs the last few years.

It's a topsy-turvy league. That's why it's difficult to build any consistency, doubly so when you chop and change every week.

Although it was only 2mins of highlights on sky sports, the boro players don't appear to be working particularly hard, and there was very little determination in their defending. A bit of a jog towards the Leeds players at best. No bodies on the line/throwing themselves into the firing line.

Playing to get Woodgate sacked?

As I say, it was only 2 mins of highlights but didn't seem like a great deal of effort going in.

Leeds 4th goal, sublime finish.

Bowen has improved Reading results

Puscas improved Reading's result today with a quick hat trick. He's Romanian.

Ferenc Puskas of the 1950s was Hungarian; a truly brilliant player; a magician.

Middlesbrough aren't looking too clever. Fairly clear on their message boards that they want Woodgate gone, especially after he brown-nosed Leeds today (a yuck in anyone's book!). Ironically, sounds like they'd be only too happy to take Pulis back after the fans "knew better" and hounded him out. Familiar-sounding story in the game!

It was a " Coylesque " type of appointment. Relegation written all over it. What made them think he would be a successful manager ?

'Boro finished 7th last season - just one point (and goal-difference) off the play-offs. Another season for Pulis and I suspect he would have done even better and given them a shot at promotion. But I suppose if the relationship between manager and supporters has gone, then it's gone.

It would have been a bit like Rovers appointing Dunny. Popular ex player but not cut out to do anything more than blowing the balls up for training.

This time last season we were 5 points outside the play offs, with a massive nosebleed and then the wheels came off in spectacular fashion.

You can see Villa there as well. Difference was they maintained form in the second half of the season.

Please can we leave the team as it is Tony and build consistency. Please.

Good graphic. Not much has changed in 12 months. Rovers goal difference is still terrible.

I wold hardly describe a goal difference of -1 as terrible for a team 11th in the table - around about right for a mid table position. If we beat Derby we will be a point better off than last season. The key is avoiding another bad run - manage that and we will be challenging through the season. Revert to or normal fluctuating forma and we won't.

I know we have lost more, but if we win on Saturday it just shows how important not settling for a draw really is. So many seasons in recent past we have been draw specialists. They can really ruin a season.

So last season the teams in 1st 6th and 8th at this stage got promoted. There really is a bit of hope for us now.

Do the right business in January and we might have something to look forward to.

Both this season and last Rovers have a negative goal difference. Also both this year and last every team above has a positive one. I'd call that terrible. There's no way a side is getting promoted shipping the amount of goals that Rovers do. It's been a problem for Mowbray since day 1 as has conceding late goals.

I'd love for the recent upturn to stick but I fear for reverting to type.

It’s not exactly surprising though is it? As a general rule the teams at the top have a good goal difference and those at the bottom a bad one. Hardly surprising - if you’re winning regularly your goal difference will keep getting better. Obviously there can be sides whose goal difference is out of kilter with that pattern but it’s a general rule. Last week there was a time when we were top of four sides on the same points because our goal difference was better.

Here’s another interesting fact. At the moment we have played 4 of the top 5 away from home. By New Year’s Day we will have played 7 of the top 8 away and only 1 at home - Brentford. Given that we tend to play better at home against the better sides that could augur well for 2020.

Agreed about draws.

Mowbray, and previously Bowyer, wanted to protect a point at all costs. As a result we stagnated. Trouble with that approach is that if enough teams around you win then you fall down the league. (In a three team league, if the other two teams beat each other but draw with you then you finish bottom).

Meanwhile Mowbray was promoted with West Brom by going all out for wins. Presumably that was what his bosses demanded. Meanwhile ours demand “improvement - if at all possible”. Nice work if you can get it.
