Tony Mowbray Discussion

Again a lot of it plays right into their hands now.

I'm not saying they don't want to win games or get as many people in a possible but to me they've waved a white flag now. They've sussed it out and know they aren't capable or driven enough to get a team in the upper end on their budget. They know that only that and low prices will get gates at Ewood up again.

So we are firmly in option B where they know the team might struggle and crowds will be low. So make the best of that situation it's far less hassle without expectation and they all still get paid the same.

I expect some price rises, tiny crowds and possibly more of the ground roped off. More staff laid off and more cost cutting with ready made excuse after excuse again. Emphasis on reduced income, reduced budget and press trotting out '150 million debt' line time after time.

The debt that is only a debt when people seem to want it to be, otherwise it's 'investment' !!!

We really might as well have Bob Saxton in charge - i'm sure these lot would have them training down Pleasy again if they could hide behind it.

And the majority of the remaining engaged support will lap up the dumbed down expectations.

If TM states mere ‘survival is the aim’, ‘we can’t compete’, ‘parachutes’ etc etc, then that will also become gospel with the fans and a 20th placed finish and a new contract for 2022 onwards will be just nodded through and the recalibration of the image of Blackburn Rovers as a club lucky to just be in the second division is complete.

Yep,feels like we are back to those days again. That is exactly the scenario that is going to be played out for our club now Mattyblue....run on a shoestring, cutbacks left right and centre, unab!e to compete with the top end of this Division.

Our highlight of the season will be a Friday night Cup tie against the mighty Southampton!

Bobby Saxton's tenure included fifth and sixth placed finishes, (which shows what can be achieved on a shoestring), something Mowbray will never achieve.

mowbray would`nt get us promoted if you gave him an infinate amount of money, saxton nearly got us there on buttons, top of the league at christmas in 1984/85,only a lack of funds to reinforce a tiring and injured squad thwarted us,same with mackay, two managers who were superior in every way to mowbray, they played with two strikers and two wide men as well, perish the thought!!!!!

After the windfall from David Raya getting promoted. Can we afford to get rid of Mowbray and the remaining Coventrio?

Don't get your hopes up. Especially as it might well be either that or the Venky's might use the cash to extend their contracts...

The latter certainly seems by far the most likely scenario.

Be careful what you wish for Tonebola. I’m convinced a combination of his fragile ego and no fans inside the ground is a reason he’s still here. Without fans he’s able to just carry on in his own little world moving the goalposts as he goes.

Just a bit of gap filling by the club. Tumbleweed stuff in recent weeks with no games so apart from the odd contract extension and 'Good luck' or 'happy birthday' message so this is their attempt at communicating and reminding fans 'we're still here'

Let's see some action not the same old boring words.

i wonder if mowbray is watching the national league play off, hartlepool, with their two strikers are creating mayhem and they are doing it in a well balanced set up ,either tony is a deluded **** who thinks he`s above such tactics or he`s being shown up by a manager who`s got a budget of next to nothing and has a job on the side

Appreciate data is a bit of a touchy subject on here lately, but I've been messing around with Power BI and using Rovers season stats... and our season really was absolutely wrecked by dismal performances against the top six. We only managed 6 points against them all season - 4 at home (Barnsley (W), Swansea (D)) and 2 away (Brentford (D), Norwich (D)).

With that said, even though there was a general feeling that we were 'flat track bullies' we actually took more points from the teams who finished between 7th-12th (19) than we did the bottom six (18) or the teams who finished 13th-18th (14).

Our best months for collecting points were November (11) and January (10). Worst months were October (4), February (1). We technically picked up 4 points in May as well but only had two matches which we won and drew, so, proportionally a good month.

Our best month for goalscoring was September (11) whilst our worst was was March (4), but January (5) and February (5) were somewhat dry months too. In terms of conceding goals our best month was January (1) and our worst was December (11) - although we also conceded 10 in October and February.

Interestingly even though January was one of our lowest scoring months, because we only conceded one goal we picked up 10 points from a possible 12. What a difference a good defence makes, huh? In comparison February saw us leak 10 goals, and therefore only pick up 1 point from a possible 18. Hopefully our statisticians show that one to Mowbray.

Team we scored the most goals against home and away this season - Birmingham (7)

Team who scored the most goals against us home and away this season - Watford (6)

Interestingly (?) we kept more clean sheets away from home than at home this season, and also conceded two less goals away from home overall. Although who knows how home and away form in general has been affected by empty stadiums.

Also, the only team not to score against us home or away this season? Middlesbrough. Yeah, I know.

Doing better against fellow mid table also rans in contrast to the top sides and also those scrapping for those lives at the bottom makes perfect sense for the holiday campers down Brockhall...

We used to struggle in a lot of those bread and butter games though.  Seems now we don't have the bottle for the bigger ones or whenever the top 6 is in sight !

It's the 2 wins in 18 or so runs that is the real problem here whoever it is against. That is just dire but made even worse when it's tried to be dressed up as a positive and progress because some stats are good and we aren't getting whacked by 2 or 3.

Bizarre way to run a team.

Another thing that's changed from previous years is our ability to score late on. This season we scored more goals in the last 15 minutes of games than any other period. At the opposite end we scored our least amount of goals in the first 15 minutes of each half... raise your hand if that one shocks you.

And that is data that can only be described as damning against our performance based guru. Proof that the bollocks spouted by the manager pre and mid match generally leads to nothing until it's kitchen sink time.
