Not wrong on that front, however comparing these ones - we ended up losing all three ultimately regardless of what they said.

I think it’s particularly obvious TM is trying to “protect” the atmosphere early doors where as Big Sam (quoted below) is trying to get a reaction, as he’d changed 11 players for that game.

Mark Hughes dryly said how it was, not good enough. Quite an interestingly bad FA cup record against COV!

He feels sorry for the billionaire owners whose share prices remain strong despite the pandemic.

He feels sorry for his squad so rotates them, he feels sorry for other players who can't play or he isn't going to use. So carries them on their contracts or sometimes even extends them. All using the clubs money.

He feels sorry for anybody who might leave Middlesbrough FC and be without a nice secure contract.

He feels sorry for himself and every challenge managing a football club might bring.

our current form (well i say current but its been going on since promotion) reminds me of how we where doing under Steven Kean in the championship, playing shite but picking up odd goals against the run of play simply because we have some quality attacking players that dont need too many chances to score not because of the managers tactics or anything. 

 

get Mowbray out, please!

I dont really think that we do have quality attacking players any more, and Mowbray does deserve some credit for some of the things done in the first 2 games. Not that he should be manager, that I expect a particularly good season or that 2 games at the start of a season changes anything.

That would be stupid, so yes, probably.

These results are in spite of Mowbray, not because of him.

Our squad is paper thin due to poor recruitment policy, bad contract management, and lack of ambition.

As a result the team picks itself, and Mowbray has very few options to tinker. Even now, he cannot see the need to make changes until it is too late. Another night and this would have finished a draw.

Let’s see what happens when he does have a bigger squad and more bench options. Then the failed rotation policy will start again.

The only saving grace is that this is probably the most uninspiring Championship line-up that there has been for some time. The biggest teams are West Brom, Bournemouth and Fulham. If we can’t finish sixth in this division, this season then it will be down to one man. This should have been the zenith of three seasons of building. Instead it’s the morning after an earthquake and we are doing the best we can from the survivors we’ve dug out of the rubble.

If we are up in the top 4-6 in December I fully expect him to get a new contract but it would be the wrong move.

No doubt Stuart, he has to go. But this was what I predicted before the season, I can see it happening as it sets the seal on the Brockhall sale.

I am not fickle enough to suggest that Mowbray suddenly should be the manager again from the back of 3 games, and indeed even in victory I didn't agree with everything that he did. But this is totally unfair, he got plenty of criticism for all of the losses, so he warrants praise for the wins.

I respectfully disagree.

He has traditionally done well when he has had fewer options to choose from. That’s not good management.

I guess one could argue that Chapman’s contribution tonight was the result of Mowbray playing a long game with his development. Banishing him to the U23s, exiling him out on loan in a lower division, but we both know he is back because Tony has next to no alternatives so it really would be scraping the barrel.

He has a slim chance of proving Mowbray wrong (or right depending on your perspective) or he will be replaced by a loanee again.

Let’s chat again about it in December. When I sincerely hope to have egg on my face.

I dont necessarily have any optimism that under Mowbray that in December, we will be in a good position to be honest. But I just think that it is fair to credit him when we get 7 points from 9, in the same way that we will criticise him if we get say 1 from 9 in the next 3 games. 

I criticised him playing Carter at full back before the game, he was excellent, and I would have also had Clarkson in front of the defence (or even Davenport) and Travis ahead instead of Buckley. Travis was man of the match playing deep. Ayala has been overall a very strange signing, but in these last 3 games he has been outstanding. We seem to be far better from set pieces this season too. There are things that I still find odd eg Dolan central and Gallagher wide, and dont think that specifically worked, but we won the game so overall Mowbray got it right.

Any inside gossip om changes to half-time routines/teamtalks? Don't think (under Mowbray) that i have ever seen is this lively after the break (based on first 3 league games)

He went to the loo and managed to splash his trousers so tried drying them under the hand dryer. If you’ve ever used the hand dryers on any of the concourse toilets you’ll understand why it only taking him 15 minutes (and an awful lot of rubbing) to get them touch dry was a massive achievement.

Meanwhile one of the players spotted a whiteboard at the back of the changing room wedged behind a bench. Presumably left there by a former manager and only previously show to Adam Armstrong…

Also for assembling what can only be described as the hardest working, determined team and with as much “potential to improve” as I can recall of any rovers squad I can remember.

To suggest this is all down to abject luck and “despite” the manager but then all issues are his problem? Sounds a lot like moving goalposts.

I think a lack of pressure due to low expectations has helped a lot so far.

Not that strange really. He was rushed into the team when Warton got injured and picked up an in jury himself and never really got going. I would say he has been absolutely instrumental in our good start to the season. The best player so far for me. Lenihan looks to have improved playing next to him. It allows Travis to focus on what he's good at. I actually wasn't overly concerned we would; concede last night after going 2-1 up. We look a proper team with him there.

Hello lads, been a while. Gotta say Mowbray was a big part of our turnaround from nearly going bust to becoming a stable prem side, until pulis effed it up. He did have a DOF though and it does seem he works best with one

Yep, Mowbray deserves some credit for the start of course he does.

The less options he has the better manager he is, always thought this.

Worried he will revert to type of chopping and changing every week when he gets his 4 loans and his couple of free transfers in though.

observing the players last night it`s clear to me that venus and his more direct approach is now doing the team shape,maybe tony has handed him the job because so far this season it`s entirely different from the mowbray teams of the last three seasons,if it works then great,dispose  the tappy tappy **** into history

i watched the lads warming up and noticed the coach lowe(the one who looks foppish) does`nt appear to be popular, the players ignored him and only reluctantly joined in his drills after he blew his whistle about a dozens times,even then it was a few half hearted dribbles and shots,the legendary ben benson however,appears very close to his goalkeepers who were very keen to listen to him and were quick to take up his warm up instructions
