It was a lovely pass for their goal as well

it was a terrible error and he`s got previous for messing things up in our half.Moral of the story is he should`nt be messing around, tell him to stay near the halfway line to latch on to clearances and press defenders,he`s a liability who should`nt be in a position to give the ball away in the worst area of the pitch, fergie banned cantona from going into midfield  because he could`nt tackle and was a liability,if it`s good enough for him then it`s good enough for gally, mowbray should be telling him that, stay away from the midfield and concentrate on harrasing defenders

The thing is, that Fergie would see a problem and would act on it. Mowbray would not even know there was a problem !

From his latest LT waffle:

“Formations don’t really matter in modern day football, when the game is so condensed from front to book or side to side, it doesn’t matter whether you have two in midfield or three in midfield, you watch the top teams play, when they’re defending everyone is behind the ball, when they’re attacking they’re attacking six, seven players and the best teams have that.

Why does he constantly mess about with formations then, if they supposedly don't matter?

Formations don't matter, except to every other football team in the world. It is not even just waffle anymore, it's utter bollocks.

I understand where Mowbray is coming from, in that, there are fewer specialist positions, with players interchangeable and teams like Liverpool playing like a pack, in that they seem to defend and attack as one. I'd guess that the stats might show that there is more running involved in the modern game than even a few years ago.

Nonetheless, it's an error for Mowbray to say that there is no structure or formation in the modern game. Liverpool always, as far as I know, play with three fairly deep lying central midfielders that shield the defence and allow the full backs to get forward.

Klopp also plays with three forwards and the wide attackers are always extremely pacy, in order to press the opposition defence and lead the counter-attack. Hence, when Harvey Elliot returned to Liverpool he played in central midfield because he doesn't have the pace to fit into the attack under Klopp's style.

Mowbray went on to say in that interview: “It’s how well you can play your style against their style and that’s all I’m trying to do, to give these young players ideas and pictures of where we go with the ball, how we disrupt the opposition,.."

I'd suggest he doesn't have much of a style. If Liverpool were loosely the model that Mowbray was going for, then Gallagher wouldn't be on the wide attack role. There is no style if one game Gallagher is in the right forward role and then, the next game, it's Poveda, or someone similar.

To be fair to Mowbray, I don't think he's the only manager struggling to come to terms with the fluidity and intensity of the modern game. Even in the Premier League, managers like Arteta and Bruce seem to be at a loss to make sense of the shift away from 4-4-2.

That may be true for elite teams with elite players who can adapt.

We are and have, neither.

Because he's obsessed with how Klopp. Pep and Southgate do things with top class player.  Instead of being a championship manager looking to squeeze blood out of stones and create the best system for what he has, then sticking to it.

By god are we long overdue someone who can do that, Mowbrays tenure is just 1 big experiment. Wheels would be hexagonal if the round design had landed on Tony's desk even though the originals worked perfect !

Sorry Tony, 3 at the back evidently doesn't work, how can you honestly expect a ST to defend at the edge of our own box and have an impact where it matters? Please do the honourable thing and leave.

Johnson woeful (as expected)

Clarkson not ready for the championship and quite frankly who cares.

He came up with yet another system tonight just designed to get in and justify some loan players. Whilst looking to nullify the opposition, the man has no faith in his team or himself in terms of just having a go.

We've seen this shite time after time after time over the past 3 years in particular. And just like usual we get exactly what we deserve. No doubt he'll just shrug his shoulders and look to lump blame somewhere.

That formation starting tonight was taking the piss just trying to make something out of Clarkson.

Rubbish! Mowbray himself just hasn’t got a clue on his best team or how to get the best out of the squad he has built himself he is quite simply out of his depth

I'm lost for words why a club like Rovers will continue to employ a man who is well past his sell by date. Surely even Venkys can see the chap has no idea. The performance was beyond bad tonight yet he'll still be manager on Saturday. There needs to be a reply from the fans against Reading.

What the hell did he expect from Clarkson?

Go and get Gareth Ainsworth Rovers and let replace Mowbray.

We need a manager with fresh ideas, new tactical approach and get us keeping clean sheets

Feckin hell Chaddy, that's another rapid change of heart!

Keep cool.

Bit of a stupid remark it all adds up to the same thing.

Again Mowbray not acknowledging fans at the end of the game - straight down the tunnel absolutely disgraceful as manager of this club when fans have travelled upwards of 450 miles tonight.

An honourable man with dignity? Nope, the bloke's a shithouse.

Agree with this although i'm a bit sceptical about Ainsworth we desperately need new ideas and above all a motivator.

Possibly the most conviction he's shown all evening.
