I do think Mowbray just stock piles players without any thought on where they fit in or how it affects our style of play.

We dont seem to have a style of play or a fixed formation.

Football is about winning, yes we like to be entertained,  but a wins a win and I'd rather be unattractive and push for promotion, than be like a play ground team chucked on the pitch with all things crossed that we score one more goal than the opposition.

He appears to have lost all composure In recent interviews and I'd say he is could be gone if we dont get a point on Saturday. 

The league cup historically is a second team game, and we cant really judge the side on tonight.

It's all about the league, can TM inspire this set of players? Something has definitely gone down over the last week, the sense of togetherness seems miles away.

Couldnt be any further from the truth re the managers belief and encouragement of the young lads. I spoke with Steve Waggott and Joe Graysons mum this evening and both spoke about the manager and the clubs desire to integrate the young players in. The team he (TM) picked tonight including Platt, Grayson and Buckley in an important match (contextually) proves that. JRC and Butterworth will play this season too. 100% barking up the wrong tree here.

I think he has put himself up as a target in respect of the expectations he’s raised Glen. I also think he might end up losing his job...but I spoke to Waggot pre match and sat behind him, Suhail and Cheston and they didn’t seem or look too concerned.

i totally  agree with  you on the crossing  but can he get back and help out . The reason  why we are letting in so many goals is down to there being no pressure  on the ball.  And its too easy to get crosses  in . How many times do you see away teams getting at our left and right back they need help . This is where a good coach earns his corn he should be getting our wide players too work back and stop the crosses . And another  thing the fittness  levels need to go up a level hardworking teams win more than they loses

So he doesn’t criticise the young players in public while turning a blind eye to the failures of the older players? He didn’t say that he thought academies were a waste of money which could be used for the first team? (Money that he is incapable of spending well)

A good winger doesn't always need pace if he is clever and astute with his passing.  Waggy had lost much of his pace when he arrived at Ewood but what a player.  He could pass the ball over 30, 40, 50 yards and land it on a sixpence.  Downing could easily operate in a more central role and supply the likes of Graham and Dack.

As poor as we were this is just standard for the league cup, I’ve been coming home for July August for years and every year it’s the same pretty much.

Dack made the difference but Danny Graham was key and the only one in the first half who wasn’t a bit poor.  All the young lads made mistakes but it’s hard when generally everyone is not very good.  

Felt sorry for Richie Smallwood after he came off, he had to walk all the way around the pitch and looked really dejected.

Why should they look concerned?

They've got another £30,000 pay slip coming next month.

Smallwood was a good player for us in League One. He deserves better than being humiliated tonight. The club should have helped him find another club this summer - and he would have departed with a farewell with a job well done.

They did try to help him. He didn’t want to move.

Hold on, when is he on record as not valuing the academy? I've only heard him speak well of it. But not necessarily follow through on what he says.

Quite right Tom. He knows what the games about, he knows what’s expected of a front man, he keeps it simple and he makes it look easy. When someone else comes close to being able to do that, then we can look at easing them into the side, but no one is doing. He’s our best front man and should still be first choice when he’s fit. It’s not his fault that no one can prise him out.

I agree, he should play on Saturday. He’s adapted his game really well to his age IMO. Knows how to create little islands of space with his physicality and has perfected the cushioned, directed header.

Funny how people see things differently. Personally I thought Brereton was looking good in the first half, up until the moment he was played through and his touch let him down - after that his head seemed to drop a bit, but up til then he looked lively, good movement, looking to play some nice 1 touch give & go’s. I do think there’s a player in there somewhere, but as others have said it might be a confidence thing. If only his header had gone in 2nd half, rather than being kept out by a goal line handball, maybe we would have seen him grow a bit more. 

But I’m amazed that people are still putting Nyambe at RB in their first choice line-ups. I’ve been as critical of Bennett as anyone, but after tonight I can’t see Ryan challenging for that spot for a while. He was abject - his performance summed up by the fact that Downing overtook him chasing back for their first goal. Our play was slow and ponderous all first half and Nyambe was the biggest culprit in my opinion, forever turning backwards, taking 3 touches when 1 was needed- right at the end of the first half he screwed a clearance into touch and my son turned to me and said ‘At least he kicked it forward for once’

I was also disappointed in Chapman when he came on. He seemed reluctant to run at the defence and I don’t recall him beating a man all evening. 

Dack was the game-changer. We really do need to get him firing on all cylinders if we’ve got any chance of a decent season

You’re right. I do remember that incident now.

Still though my recollection of his time on loan with us is of him flying past defenders for fun, and he was a pale imitation of that tonight. Maybe it’s just my memory playing tricks on me and giving me unrealistic expectations, I just anticipated him having a bigger impact
