Burrells Boy Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 The best teams are built from the back, so for me a left back, another central defender and then a goal scorer on loan, if that’s financially possible. 2

Our scouting network is poor, slow to link up with local grassroots clubs ..preston are very proactive in the schools district/town team area of youth football whereas Blackburn no longer have a schools town team at any age......this is something rovers could tap into but they don't. When I was a lad loads of the apprentices played town team football in blackburn and around the region. Since the introduction of EPP There's a reason no Cat 1 academy players are playing for their county and town teams....... The club has to give permission and they won't give permission, they don't feel any Cat. 1 academy player will benefit from it as usually the coaching is limited to say the least and is taken by junior football coaches, teachers etc who aren't that great (no offence intended to junior coaches, teachers etc) Cat 1 academy players will train 4/5 times a week with games on Sunday and a training session on a Saturday morning, this is when the majority of town/county teams play, this doesn't apply to Cat 2 and Cat 3 academy's as they don't train as often and permission isn't required this is why you will see Burnley (Cat 2) and Preston (Cat 3) players involved in this level of football, it is very rare to see a Cat 1 academy player in these games and is the reason no Rovers youngster plays for the town or county, if they had one to play for So the level of town and county teams is well down on what they used to be and is why you have to go back to the time of Giggs, Scholes, Dunny etc to find elite players in these teams, it has nothing to do with scouting or hook ups with local teams etc, it's basically a non starter for Cat 1 players 3

I think Raos may give Mowbray short shrift after paying out 12M for Gallagher and Brereton. They may well say "play Brereton". Bit like the line in Hunt for Red October, "You've lost ANOTHER submarine?". Mowbary at Venkies, You need ANOTHER striker? 1

Can we leave that era in the past and focus on this season and beyond Well "yes" its just that you came up with this gem: "Why would the owners weaken our chances of promotion by selling any one who is key to our team?" I went back to show you its not been a barrier in the past. 1

Who would have played centre back yesterday if Tosin hadn't been fit? Smallwood? Shines a light on Mowbray's poor defensive recruitment doesn't it? Derrick Williams or bust, and with him being injured it's bust. 2

Derrick Williams or bust, and with him being injured it's bust. We are in desperate straits. TM moans we have too many players and he'd like to get back to having a manageable squad. But who handed out contract extensions to players who aren't good enough? We've had several transfer windows under this manager and out of our defence (back 4 +keeper) 3 are loans! Moreover, he has too many players for some positions but virtually no decent back-up in defence and no width. We could have strengthened in the areas we needed to and be pushing for promotion now----for less than he has spent! Instead we will finish bottom half again ---at best. He's a disaster. 7
SoldierMo Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Closest player with potential to replace dack in the future is gallagher at charlton on loan from chelsea...has the aggressiveness about him we should put a bid in january cant believe our scouts miss that one
SoldierMo Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 And hes soo called squad and depth he talks about...when the time gets hard they all bloody injured really had enough of Mowbray

If they are under contract then they leave when the club thinks it appropriate in the interests of the club ie when we have adequate replacements lined up. Why didn't this happen! Because Venkys didn't mind ruining any promotion chances we had! Other clubs don't just fold to players' demands eg Palace over Zaha.

Wegerleswiggle Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-making-checks-left-back-21185033 Were we not interested in this lad during the summer?
stinny1 Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 This why i blame TM he new what Rovers where lacking at the end of last season the defence was poor we need 2 center halfs right back he got a left back in and was unlucky with the lads injury . The best Rovers teams have always played with wingers but TM plays forwards its crazy . Bennett gives it ago but he's not good enough . Gallagher 6ft2 but when he jumps he goes too 4ft 2 and he's not hungry enough to play up front on his own. Chapman why did he buy him he's never plays . Walton isn't an up grade on Reya and we still need a keeper next season . Armstrong is never a winger my lad 15 year old said why are they playing too big lumps up front against Huddersfield when Graham won the header he needed Armstrong to make runs off him . Rothwell how frustrating is it watching him all game he kept making runs into the middle where all the traffic was not once did he take the ball down the line . 3 years of TM at the club and theres still major rebuilding to be done. Have a losing do like last season and drop down the league and they will have too give season tickets away for nowt

We were linked, yeh. Dunno how true it was. I remember someone saying he hadn't been anything special when he was in the Championship, but think he would only have been 21 then.

The name rings a bell, but we were stumped when we were told that we would actually have to pay a transfer fee for him. We don't buy defenders.
Ossydave Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Liverpool have rubbished the Clark story anyway, not like the Mirror to make shite up.. . 2
bluebruce Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Looking at the losses declared today, extrapolated over a 3-year period and with easily our most valuable playing asset out for a year, and our playoff hopes hitting the rocks, it's hard to see how the money men will sanction more spending without outgoings. Beyond loans, freebies and maybe very-cheapies. 1
Bigdoggsteel Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Would I be correct in saying Brereton has been here 2 years now? Crazy ,crazy stuff. 2

We are only 3 points off the play offs so all is not lost there but otherwise your point stands; worth pointing out that FFP constraints may well mean that the money men can't sanction signings even if they wanted to.
