CD_93 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 If anyone was next to Dack I would have expected Rothwell not not a left winger. But I should never expect Rothwell. 2 Quote

I like that JB got a start - even if id probably accept Travis has been good this year. New system might rely on a better passer like Buckley, and having Travis’s energy as impact might be also very valuable. Quote

OJRovers Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Surely Downing should be at either left wing back or right wing back?? I did suggest that Tony would crowbar Tosin into the team as soon as he was fit. Quote
bluebruce Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Assuming Millwall are the rough and tumble team they always seem to be, this doesn't seem like the game to start Buckley, due to his lightweight build. It calls for a warrior like Travis. Sceptical of that formation, especially at home to Millwall. We will see how it turns out, but I'm expecting a dull, attritional game. Hope we have enough to come through it, though we could find ourselves bullied today. Arma is no giant. 1 Quote
Blue blood Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Just now, Harry The Bass said: This shifts into a 532 easily - Bennett to WB right an Cunny pushes up. Not really. Where is Downing in a 5-3-2 Also no Travis - one of our best players this season seems a very odd decision. Especially against the battling qualities of Millwall. Also given that we don't play 5-3-2 it seems foolish to give the opposition an advantage by playing a formation we aren't familiar with. Quote
Mr. E Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 5 at the back with wing backs makes a lot more sense to me, but Armstrong alone up front makes absolutely 0 sense. 0. Quote
bluebruce Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Also, if Bennett is playing as an actual winger, he really is being forced into the team at any cost despite what Tony says. Several better options available there. Quote

I suspect we're going 3 at the back: Williams, Tosin and Lenihan with Bennett and Cunningham as wing backs and Downing central but who knows?! 1 Quote
OldEwoodBlue Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) According to Rich Sharpe, this is the confirmed setup Edited September 14, 2019 by OldEwoodBlue Quote

Ive watched us pretty much game for game under TM, and we’ve played plenty of phases with 3 centre backs. Havent started many games like this mind. I think (as I said) we will change between that 532, and 4321 (normal formation) that’s basically Stuart’s 442 with the wingers pushed on and dack behind AA Quote
Crimpshrine Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Could be interesting. Armstrong scored a nice goal against them last year so he may be in confident mood. Asking a lot of Buckley to produce some incisive passing as it's not Johnson's strong point. Crosses from out wide aren't going to be much of an option given Millwall's height advantage. Don't really know what to expect. Quote
Backroom DE. Posted September 14, 2019 Backroom Posted September 14, 2019 Last few times we've played 3 at the back it's failed miserably and disappeared for months. Will be interesting to see if the new personnel make things any better. Quote
skous18 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Mowbray always gives us a handicap. Cant help but thinking that in some years we will look at the potential we have had in the current squad and we will bang our heads as why results never came 1 Quote

bigbrandjohn Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Well it’s all rather exciting. Anything that gets us all in a tizzy means that bold experiments are afoot. Belt up for possible turbulence on our journey. ??? 1 Quote

OldEwoodBlue Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 MUST WIN GAME ! Mowbray himself says we need 12 points from the next 18. The run needs to start today. COYB Quote
joey_big_nose Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Mad lineup that. I always will give a manager kudos to try something new. But it has to work! A front 3 with a back five is a very weird combination. Let's see how it goes. Quote
Miller11 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Nothing really surprises me these days when I see a line up on a Saturday. We have absolutely no defined style or identity. We remain very reactive to the opposition - sides that trouble the top 6 tend to have the opposition worrying about them. Adarabioyo in is a good call, but I would have dropped Lenihan for him. Seems strange altering the formation when they will almost certainly play a 4-4-2/4-5-1. They have rung the changes a bit too, 6”6 Matt Smith only makes the bench. They could quite easily overwhelm us in wide areas - expect Romeo to get forward plenty... and sadly I can see Mahoney getting a lot of joy 1 v 1 with Bennett. You'd expect we are going to try and play it on the deck a lot. Genuinely intrigued to see how long that lasts. Quote
