47er
great memories of waiting for the Last Pink to arrive and racing over to the Newsagent----when we won of course! Just wanted to read the match report and relive the game I'd just got back from!

I spent last Saturday watching a re-run of the '66 WC England win followed by a first-ever viewing of 'The Wembley Wizard', the story of Matthews made in 2015. I downloaded them as torrents some time ago. I only wish there was something similar made for Bryan Douglas, I do have the full 1960 FA Cup Final but that was a poor day. My 14 year-old Son is visiting in School break and a few days back I found him on my PC watching a full version of our Full Members Cup win, I might make a Rover of him yet. LIke most youth out here, they are brainwashed by the PL and the fact he goes to an Arsenal run football academy. Cryer did a good 3 part story on Bryan Douglas a few years back in the LT, I have the links and will post if anyone wants them.

Roughly in line with where that photographer was standing. It was an Easter Saturday game. I wonder how many of the 11,500 are left now. We’d hammered Sheff Wed at home the day before 3-0, maybe people couldn’t afford 2 home games in 2 days although going to the football was dirt cheap back then.

Tyrone Shoelaces
Another thing I remember was Mick McGrath scoring one of the other goals. He was the Tronstad of the team so he rarely scored goals. Again it was right in front of me. A ball was fired in from the right wing all along the ground. Mick came sliding in on his backside on the near post, stopped the ball with his left foot, and knocked it in with his right foot, from about 3 yards out whilst lying down ! It’s funny the things you remember.

So that makes two of us who were at the game Tyrone. I couldn’t afford both home games over Easter but was lucky I picked the right one. I well remember the Albion players applauding Duggie after his wondergoal.

I had a paper round so I could afford it. We won in a canter against Sheff Wed on the previous day. The thing I remember about that one was we got a pen and Fred Pickering took it. Ron Springett in the Wednesday goal had his own technique when facing pens, he stood a yard to the left of centre. He reckoned he was stronger on his right hand side than the left. Fred went for the bigger space on Springett’s right but Springett got across and saved the pen. Why Fred took it and Bryan Douglas didn’t was a mystery. The first goal in the West Brom game the next day was a penalty and Dougie took it and scored.

Upside Down
It's a shame we can't take cuttings of Bryan Douglas and grow another Bryan Douglas.
