It was posted on here the other day but David Raya's recent interview says it all:

David said. "If you watch highlights from me when I was back at Blackburn, you will see a keeper that just stood on the line, not coming for anything, rarely going for a cross, rarely going outside the box, rarely anticipating, just waiting to make that save.

"When I signed for Brentford, Inaki just completely changed my style of being a goalkeeper, to be more proactive and anticipate stuff that has not happened yet. Brentford were in the same league as us yet they had a goalkeeping coach that was miles ahead of ours. Why wasn't he being taught those things at Rovers?

Because there is no position more than goalkeeping where players improve more as they get older than goalkeeper.

I believe that Benson, like Lowe and probably Johnson, is irreplaceable.

We can only speculate as to the reasons why but the first two have been here for years and through 3-4 different managers.

Of course the decision as to the makeup of his coaching staff should be one for Eustace but I think he will have had to accept working with that lot before getting the job.

Yes that's obviously it. The coaching levels offered by our PE teacher who never played the game will definitely will be at the same level as an ex international goalkeeper.

Alternatively, the large number of goalkeepers that Benson has coached who have made it to the Premier League might suggest that he knows what he is doing.

Or alternatively we've had goalkeepers with good attributes that have failed to realise their potential here and so have sought moves elsewhere, and have quickly thrived under different coaching.

We will probably never know the answer.

What I do know is that the current situation isn't good enough, and one or both of Pears and the coach need replacing pronto.

This is damning and suggest why Walstedt was so bad at crosses. Get Benson out now

Steele and Walton are 2 of the worst goalkeepers I've seen in a Rovers shirt, especially the former - and we've had some bad ones in the 60 years I've been watching. Of the 2 scenarios above, you have to say they have gone to become better goalkeepers after they've left - pointing to coaching failures at Ewood Park

Wahlstedt was doing that from the very beginning.

I would like to see a change of GK coach and Lowe remove as first team coach here. 

I would like to see Bobby Mimms come back as GK coach and us appointed a permanent set pieces coach in place of Lowe.

I've not seen any keepers in the past 5 or 6 years improve while they have been here, they all improved after leaving which is pretty damning.

as iv`e stated many times,how can benson,someone  who has never played the game at any level expect to coach profesional footballers,it`s like a plumber putting central heating in when he`s learned how to do it from a textbook and not actually done any practical work,benson  can`t possibly know the goalkeeping psychology because he`s never been a goalkeeper,get rid of him,get a specialised goalkeeping coach in and we might get an improved pears

To be fair, there are so many examples of successful managers and coaches with at best very poor playing historys, and vice versa.

Brightons new manager just played B team and lower league football and is only 31. He won his first game 3 nil.

Benson may be poor at his job but its not necessarily because of not having a glittering playing career.

he`s not had any career because he`s never played the game at any level

Too much is made of Benson's lack of experience in the game but what you have posted here is damning.

There have been many goals over the last few years that we have conceded where the situation should have been dealt with by the keeper long before it ever became a goalscoring opportunity. This is especially true when it comes to crosses and set pieces.

Previously Kaminski had the raw talent to make this not much of a huge issue. Now with Pears who doesn't have that talent level of Kaminski the problem is amplified tenfold.

Replacement of both our goalkeeper and the goalkeeping coach is essential.

I've been saying this for years about Lowe and Benson - nice to see you've seen some sense.

As for a 'set piece coach', just wtf do Eustace, Gardiner and Downing do?  It's bollocks - Big Sam didn't need set piece coaches or defensive coaches and neither did the likes of Bill Shankly, Brian Clough, Kenny Dalglish - the game has gone feckin mad.
